    Default DSST Online Redux

I may have missed it in the discussion threads, and I know that this had been discussed, but I came across the official word on availability of computer based, immediate scoring of DSST exams on the DSST website today, (together with the increased test fees). So I am posting it here in case anyone may have missed it. Thanks.

    Quote:

Beginning October 1, 2006, Colleges and Universities can provide their students with paperless delivery via Internet-Based Testing.
    • Candidates will be able to obtain immediate test results.
    • Proctors will be able to use a more streamlined and efficient process.
Note: Since immediate scoring will not be available for the recorded oral speech for the DSST Principles of Public Speaking examination, it will continue to be administered in the same manner as it is today.

Test administrators should contact the DSST Program Representative at pnj-dsst@thomson.com for information on how to get started.

    End Quote.

As to whether the test will be timed or not, and if timed, how much time, here is an email response from DSST I just received. Again please forgive me if this has already been posted.

    Quote:

While the paper exams are untimed, they are designed to be completed in 90 minutes. The IBT exams will be a 2-hour timed test.

    Regards,

    Janet L. McCormick
    Program Operations Manager
    Thomson Prometric

    End Quote.

so the dsst statistics test that i spent 3 hours taking is supposed to be finished in half the time i took. does that mean they will add MORE questions since the this test is based on 90 minutes and they will need to fill the other 30?

    Hi yutzyj,

That is not the impression that I got today. I think that the number of test questions will remain unchanged depending on the test, but I did not confirm that specifically with Ms. McCormick. One additional item that I did confirm with her is that we will still have the option to take the paper test with the slow scoring that goes along with that mode of testing.

Personally, I would rather have the long wait for my score than a 120 minute deadline on a test like Finance or M & B, or as you mentioned Statistics.

Another question I did not ask and I will next week is how much longer will the paper tests continue to be an option. It is like you have to drag out every detail about the new and old testing processes. I wish they would just publish all these details on their FAQ webpage.

However, like other, more experienced and wiser members on this board have said in many posts, I am just glad to have the option to test out of these subjects for such a small amount of money and time, so I shouldn't complain about it. Alas...

    Hi charlie130-
i'm glad we still have the paper option. i am hoping that they never do away with the paper version. maybe because it is military, soldiers would be able to take a test anywhere, regardless of access to computers. i also would rather wait for my score and have unlimited time.

I couldnt agree with you more. I have taken many computer based exams, but of late, I have come to appreciate the paper based exams for the complex/upper division subjects. It would be so nice if they would just lose the wait for the grade.
