My exam is scheduled for Thurdsay and the only preparation I've had has been reading The Art of Public Speaking. I ordered Rudman's book but it hasn't arrived in 2 weeks and I don't think it will ever arrive.

I'm looking for a couple persuasive speech topics similar that that given during the DSST Public Speaking exam. Any assistance to get me over the pre-exam gitters will be appreciated.

AS on the way!!!!

Took the test about 8 months ago, passed the written with a 65, failed the actually speech, reason was not loud enough. Think the second part is unfair, was not aloud to listen to speech after performing it. I think tape player was too far away, but had no way of telling. Topic was drug testing.

I used these two sites alone for about 30 minutes the night before the exam and scored 49 on the multiple choice.

I, however, failed the speech portion, reason cited was "failed to stimulate critical thinking," even though I followed the structure for a persuasive speech.

I met a guy a month ago (proctor) that, like me, failed for that reason and ended up calling Chancey and complained. They had another speech professor listen to his speech, and reversed the fail.

At this point I only have a month to go, so I won't bother. Just remember that you have that option open to you, not that you'll have any problems with it.

It's a relatively simple exam, it just takes forever to get your results, just remember to keep it in between three and five mins and to have all your thoughts organised on that sheet they give you, and you should be golden.

I failed my first attempt at the speech even though I blew away the written portion. The question you need to be asking everyone is "What are the topics they were given for the speech portion?". Then sit down and draw up an outline for each, then practice the speech. This is what I did the night before with 4 subjects and was lucky enough to get one I practiced for. What freaked me out was only getting 10 minutes to prepare the speech, I can't think of hardly any circumstances in life where I'll have to give a speech on an obscure subject with only 10 minutes prep. Using this method will beat them at their own silly game as you'll be prepared, gee...just like real life!

To start the list here are some I remember:

Pro or con: Whether or not to impose term limits for members of either the house or senate (I'm not sure which it was but the point is the same)

Pro or con: Whether or not to make community service a pre-requisite for high school graduation

I'm sure others can lend their experience to give you a nice list to practice with. You will even be prepared in case you get one not on the list because you've practiced. Hopes this helps, Lee

Without getting my results I'm going to predict.

FAIL, FAIL, FAIL

My speech will be posted on the internet titled, "How to Make Absolutely Every Mistake While Giving a Speech". My only hope is that someone in our 51st or 52nd state, where English is a second language, evaluates my speech.

On a side note, the results from my last exam arrived today, I got a 66 on Principles of Statistics.

Congratulations on doing so fantastic on the Statistics exam. I know you are feeling down about the Speech exam, but passing Statistics is your BIG NEWS today!

I almost missed the good news in the shadow of your "FAIL, FAIL, FAIL" message.

You should have started off by saying, "PASS, PASS, PASS", and then casually mentioned that you might have failed Public Speaking.
