Just wondering if these are worth the money, if someone feels they may need some additional help. I have been looking for REA sources for DSST tests and they seem limited and where I have seen these books mentioned in some threads, comments were not always positive.

Can those of you who have used these sources give the newbies here an idea of which ones are or are not worth the investment.

I've seen they have some books on what may be more difficult subjects, like Vietnam, Civil War, World Religions, etc.

From my understanding of posts on this forum some of the books are good and some are very bad. I just used one last week to pass money and banking and it helped me tremendously. It was very well written and concise.

They say that if you don't pass you get your money back but I have also seen people here say that they had to complain to their credit card company to get their money back because passyourclass wouldn't respond to email.

I have the Substance Abuse & Personal Finance books. I'm studying for some upcoming tests (Substance Abuse is in 6 days, on Saturday).

Anyway, I started with the PYC books and was using their flashcards. One of the facts looked wrong to me (it was about Proof & Alcohol %) and another card says, "Another word for the term uppers". The answer...... "uppers". Yes, I swear that's what it says!

I can't comment on the written material yet, because I haven't gotten through it. I discovered this website, along with IC this weekend and have been spending the bulk of my time on IC - IMO, it's much easier to use for me.

I haven't opened the Personal Finance PYC yet, because that's not till late July.

I can't speak for any of their other materials, but I ordered the CLEP College Algebra materials from PassYourClass just over a week ago. Their site states that their resources are all you need to pass the tests. When I got the study guide & looked through it, I couldn't believe they were making that claim. It included only a short explanation and one example of each concept, and unless you already have a pretty good understanding of algebra, there's no way that their study guide would be enough to get you through the CLEP. I emailed the company & asked for a refund. Their response was "You are correct that our study guides are designed to take a student with no knowledge of a subject and get them to a passing level. The exceptions are math and foreign language. While these should be self-explanatory, we will make it more clear on the website." There was no mention of this on their website whatsoever, and they told me that they'd only refund my money if I failed. I KNOW I'd fail if I took the test using only their study guide, but I'm not going to throw away $110 in test fees to get my $40 back for the PassYourClass materials. That would be idiotic. They did offer to email me the College Mathematics study guide stating that they recommend reviewing those study materials first (once again, no mention of this on the site). So needless to say, my first experience with this company may very well be my last one.

I have the Pass Your Class guide for English Lit. Though I haven't used it yet, it looks wimpy. There is a (very) concise review section, a short sort of practice quiz, and some flashcards - which is perhaps the best part of the deal. I doubt many of the PYC guides can be used on their own.

I prefer IC & REA & Peterson's.

PYC Guides are for the most part a brief synopsis of the overall material on both CLEP & DSST exams. Certainly not the best and far better than nothing. They can help.

I agree with ShotoJuku. If you do buy from Pass Your Class, don't buy directly from their site. Try to buy used from eBay or Amazon or somewhere like that.

One really suspicious thing about Pass Your Class is that the only way you can contact them is by email. They have no address or phone number on their website. By the way, they claim that you can pass the CLEP using only their materials....I seriously doubt that.

I used these on several tests. They each have several errors (much like Wikipidea does), the flash cards are a joke. Do not use as your only source.

But... I like them. Are they too expensive for what you get? That is all relative to how much you are willing to spend. If your money is worth more then your time, this information can be gleened from other resources for free. Time is money? Go for it.

Again, nothing eye opening in these little packages. All the info is available free of charge elsewhere (library for one). But they do provide nice light subject related reading.
