I notice that it seems to be common that a lot of people say that certain CLEP tests are worth 6 credits.. just wanted to drop a note that before you assume you'll breeze by with the 6, make sure you check with your school first. My school only offers 3 credits for the collegeboard recommended 6 credit tests, something I just found out this morning after taking 2 6 credit tests.

Indeed, you are right. I have a friend who will only get three credits for the normally six credit test College Mathematics.
It is always wise to check with your college before you take stuff. For example, I took the Comp w/ Essay CLEP test before I knew I was going to EC. That's the one test EC doesn't accept it seems! Oh, well.

Well, live and learn - I would've taken them anyway because I didn't want to sit through the core classes, and I'll continue taking them because at least they still count for the core credits - cheap fast credits are cheap fast credits, after all. Looks like I'll be taking some fun electives to fill the gap, though!

You are right!! Not only should you know the number of credits awarded, but you should get the college's CLEP policy in writing. This is sometimes found on the school's web site. Many schools that accept CLEP still don't accept every CLEP. I found a local college that accepted all the maths except for PreCal Here are a few things to consider before jumping in with both feet: 1. Does my college accept CLEP/DSST/AP at all? 2. If so, which tests. 3. Of these, which apply to my degree plan? 4. How many credits are each exam worth? 5. Is there a score minimum needed to get those credits? 6. Is there an in-house cost to put those credits on my transcript? 7. Can I have my score report automatically sent to this college? 8. If the exam offers an essay, is one required for me? 9. Do I have the CLEP policy in writing, or am I going on the word of an advisor? 10. Where do I take CLEP test? 11. What is the maximum number of credits I can use toward my degree? As you can imagine, these questions are all institution-specific. Good Luck all!!

Yup. Also, they often duplicate courses you might not think they would. It's at the schools discretion.
