New WGU IT degrees coming: BS Cyber Security (June), BS/MS Computer Science (unknown)
#11
So Cyber is what were gonna call it now? I suppose it was inevitable considering the US Military has a Cyber Command but I still cringe when I hear it. I kinda dismissed the TESU bachelor because of that feeling but I guess I should get over it.

I originally thought of it as a buzzword but changed my mind while working in my last job. In banking, Info Sec extends past technology to things like clear desk policy, locking file cabinets, destruction of physical documents, and even the requirements for background checks. We used cybersecurity to define the subset of Info Sec that was just technical.

All of that stuff is important to cybersecurity as well though...

Doesn't matter how secure the system is when someone has sensitive information about it lying all over their desks or has a suspect background.

Information about the BS Cybersecurity and Information Assurance degree is on the site now!

I might switch over to this from IT Security. The certifications are actually much better than I thought they would be for this program. I'm very tempted, and of the 5 classes I've taken at WGU so far, all of them still apply to the new degree. I will probably jump ship.

I am worried about it being a new program, however. I don't necessarily want to be one of the first groups of people working out all of the bugs. decisions, decisions.

Here are the certs for this one:
  • Certified Cloud Security Professional (Associate of (ISC)² CCSP)
  • Systems Security Certified Practitioner (Associate of (ISC)² SSCP)
  • Certified Encryption Specialist (EC-Council ECES)
  • Certified Incident Handler (EC-Council ECIH)
  • Certified Internet Webmaster – Site Development Associate (CIW-SDA)
  • Certified Internet Webmaster – Web Security Associate (CIW-WSA)
  • A+ (CompTIA)
  • Network+ (CompTIA)
  • Security+ (CompTIA)
  • Project+ (CompTIA)
  • ITIL Foundation

Of the undergrad cyber security programs from the Big 3 and WGU, that looks the most interesting to me. I will have to find one of the more detailed cert transfer guides. I'm not interested in going back to A+ material or retaking the Net+, Sec+, and Project+, but if one of the newer MCSEs will take out some of those, then I may consider it.

Not quite what I was hoping for, but if I finish my BSBA:CIS and get a new MCSE and the CISSP within the next 18 months, I may apply and see what gets accepted.
