Anyone willing to take a crack at my old transcripts?

originalamyj Wrote:You are right. It's worth the money. I just need to save up a bit.

I recall reading about a Chinese Literature in Translation class at BYU that's only $550. But it's CHI 3xx something, not LIT or ENG. Have you heard if that one will work? Ive applied to TESU and my transcripts are in their way. I'm guessing after I get my Evaluation I'll be able to ask about stuff like that?
Actually as soon as you're accepted you can start accessing advising and ask those questions. I second the motion that you should get the degree you really want, after all how many degrees are you planning to earn? You should make it count.
NanoDegree: Intro to Self-Driving Cars (2019)
Coursera: Stanford Machine Learning (2019)
TESU: BA in Comp Sci (2016)

My eval came in and I'm confused...

First of all, I apparently clicked BA LS/Hum but that is not what I want. I want a BA in English. So I logged in and changed my major. Is it that simple?

They are giving me 3 credits for each of my courses transferred in from a quarter school. Does that mean this eval is basically worthless since it's inaccurate? I've heard some people say the initial eval has a lot of errors. I am kinda feeling like what's the point? When can I get read direction to what I'm doing?

I'm sorry if this is hard to read. I just copied and pasted since I'm in my phone.

I'm sorry if this is hard to read. I just copied and pasted since I'm in my phone.

So, yes, there will be a problem at some point when they realize that these should be converted to quarter credits. I'm not sure that I would point it out to them, in the hopes that they don't ever notice - but then you run the risk of them realizing the problem when you apply for graduation and they re-evaluate everything, and then you're kind of screwed. I would either tell them to get it straightened out immediately, or else not say anything and hope and pray that they never see it.

As for the problem of missing a credit in an area, that at least, won't be a problem. You will have to make up the credits in your Gen Ed Electives area, or in the same area. So For English II, it's 2cr, and the missing credit goes to GEE, that will happen with each missing credit in Quant Lit, Diversity, Ethics, Civic Engagement, etc. I don't think it will be a problem overall in GE. Where it is more of a problem is in your AOS, but that's easy enough to make up the credits if need be (like you can't be short even a single credit, so you would need an extra course in there).

Just changing your eval to the new major isn't enough, you actually have to contact TESU and have them change it.

Also, I want to point something out to you, because I think it may become an issue for you. You said you wanted to be an English major, basically for personal fulfillment, and because you'll enjoy taking the courses. BUT, if you look at what most people say about Shmoop, I don't think you will enjoy the courses. So, you'll spend your time on sucky courses that you don't enjoy, to get the major that you want. I would consider keeping your major as BALS, taking the necessary courses to get that degree quickly, OR switching to the English major and taking courses that you would enjoy somewhere other than Shmoop. Just a thought, but people really aren't enjoying Shmoop courses much that I've read about.

Good luck!

You'll have to either email or call advising to actually change your degree. The only thing you can do online is choose to run an eval assuming a different degree, sort of a "what if" analysis. While it's helpful, the results can't really be relied on.

Thanks both of you for your replies. I for sure will call their attention to that credit issue. And leave my major alone at the moment because I'm still not sure what to do...

dfrecore, the Shmoop concern is something I am taking seriously as well. I am not hearing good things either and don't like having so many eggs in that basket. Unfortunately for this degree there aren't other inexpensive options. So I either suck it up and make it through them, or I settle for not getting the degree I truly want. Right now I am working on my Guardian Scholarship. As soon as that's done I thought perhaps I would give at least one Shmoop course a shot and see how horrible it is. I have taught high school literature in a homeschool co-op setting for 4 years, and have even used Shmoop to help me in my planning and preparing for class, so the issue of their vernacular is not going to bother me. It's hokey but I think I can deal. We'll see.

I also still plan to take the A&I and American Lit CLEPs. Those I will thoroughly enjoy studying for!
