After a couple of weeks, the utility of the chatbox is questionable and I'm not sure there's enough traffic on this forum to generate any real activity on it.
So participate in the poll--do we keep the chatbox or remove it?

I have changed my mind. Now that I know it is there, and I used it I like it.

Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future.

Id say keep it. I havent posted in it yet but I saw some new guy traffic in it such as "where do i find the flash cards". This could cut back on some of the random postings etc. Plus its faster and may eliminates other silly posts.
I say toss it, though an instant private chat feature might be nice.

I really like it, and think it has been and will be useful.
If it's a little intrusive to people on the top of the main page right there, maybe it could be moved to a div to the right of the list of categories, or underneath or something?
I have never noticed one at another forum before, but maybe they are for members only.
How are they typically used - small talk, urgent messages, what else?
What would be the best way to use it here?
I am concerned that some newbies are not getting their questions answered. I do not think I could answer some of their questions in the limited space.

Unfortunately, the voting didn't clearly swing towards one decision or the other.
Seeing that after a couple of weeks the chatbox has yet to generate any meaningful activity, I've disabled it for now. It seemed that it might have been significantly reducing the amount of participation in the traditional format of creating and replying to threads.
Maybe if we get to a point of higher participation and more casual conversation on the forum we can bring it back.
Thanks to everyone who participated in the poll!
