I agree with scheduling the test -- that's been a great motivator for me. For US History 2, I enjoyed the videos at learner.org and found it helped break up the boredom of just doing IC flashcards for hours on end, and also helped reinforce what I was learning, by hearing / seeing it in video.

Speaking of motivation, I have 2 tests scheduled for this Friday, so I'd better get motivated and get on to studying!

    Smile I did it!

Ok, I scheduled my tests. I'm taking US History 2 on Aug 15th, and Social Sciences and History on Aug 22nd. This is also my first week of classes with TESC online, so I am a little anxious - this is my first time taking classes online- so once I feel like I understand the course requirements I'll be a lot more comfortable with this whole semester!

I have found the best way to motivate yourself when you do not like what you are studying, is by focusing on the subjects you will study, that you like, once you are done with the one you dislike! It motivates me to put in the study time to finish and move on to something better. Do not let lack of interest in the subject lead to procrastination and slow you down. That can sometimes happen.

I also like to focus on the future goal of having that degree, imagining it on my wall! This motivates me for all my classes, even those I am not interested in..LOL.

    Default Motivation

I am one fo the cheapest people around and I find the fear of taking a test and failing wasting my money, not being able to retake it for six months, having to pay Excelsior an annual student fee motivation enough for me to kinda study hard and pass. Just pass.

Welcome to the forums, deano! I'm in Memphis right now studying for the Ark real estate exam and DSST Tech Writing at my grandparents. I have alot of family here, was born here, raised elsewhere. Praise the LORD!!! I don't covet life here as my blood yerns for the emerald hills and moist valleys of a peaceful, laid back existence. Yet, my extended family is so engrained in the fabric of (old) Memphis, I must confess a sentimental attachment to it.

Glad to see you on here!

"Thank ya, thank ya very much ..." and "Hail to King Willie" (yea right).

I also feel very motivated to study when my test is scheduled. I was able to do my CLEP and DANTES exams on a walk-in basis and I ended up taking much longer to complete those in comparison to the ECE exams that I must schedule.

Another way I motivate myself: I go to the grad school websites that I am thinking about attending and peruse the programs that interest me. Keeping my long term goals and dreams in mind helps me get through the mundane steps that I need to take to get there.
