¿Speaking to an actual person at TESC?
#1
Is there a magic number to actually speak to someone in advising or does everything have to be via email with 4 day lag time? I'm on my fourth request to have upper level law courses (which I took at a B&M university) fill the business electives spot in my BSBA GM degree. For some reason they brought them in as lower lever criminal justice credits.

I thought it would be straightforward, but it's proving difficult. Any thoughts? Ellis.

Did you put in a help ticket or request a phone conference with your adviser? It has been a while since I graduated but these methods seemed to work best in my day. ( We need a bent over old person with a cane smileyWink)

Are they not responding to your requests, or are you complaining that you have to put in a request each time? You can call the advisement helpline, but they aren't very helpful for doing complicated things such as changing equivalencies. The equivalencies of law courses are based on the content of the courses. If you took criminal law, then it's criminal justice. If you took business law or real estate law, then that is business.

If you call the regular line and ask for an advisor, they should be able to patch you to one. If you have like 10 minutes to wait, someone should pick up.

Don't waste time by trying to save time. The only sure way to complete your degree is to knock out credits quickly and efficiently.

Don't let easiness bite you in the rear. Know your endgame (where you want to be) and plan backward from there. Your education is a means to an end.

Be honest professionally, socially and academically. There are people (especially little ones) who look up to you and they're going by your example.

Be proud. Whether you're an Engineer or Fast Food worker, there is honor and dignity in hard work.

Picking on people weaker than you only proves that you are a weak person.

Thank you all for replying. My adviser keeps advising me to put in help tickets, and my help tickets keep coming back 'problem solved' with the problem ignored. There is a possibility that I am being too polite. You know, the whole honey vs vinegar idea.

Time to speak to someone else at the university, like the Registrar.

This issue may be a bit more complicated than it looks.

You may need to schedule a 30 min advising appointment to discuss the issues you are having. There may be an issue with those courses meeting the requirement but if the Advisor approves the course(s) s/he may need to create exceptions and manually place the courses in that section. What is most important is to be sure that they document your student file so there won't be a problem when you are ready to graduate. If those courses are actually from the social science dept, I would ask for the Dean's approval as well. The Advisor sends a simple email request to the Dean of the Business School asking for his/her approva;nNo big deal.

Better to handle this now then it pop up when they are certifying your file for graduation and they deny use of the courses leaving you to scramble for replacemnts. This scenario has happened quite often so make sure you cover yourself.

Take care.

Thank you Bricabrac! I'll see if I get an answer on this past ticket and if not I'll request the appointment. Good to know there are options.
