23 units to earn B.S.
#1
Hi all. It's time to buckle down and finish this damn degree. I am asking for some help getting pointed in a proper direction based on my situation. I have 28 units left to earn my B.S. in journalism through a California State College (Cal Poly), but cannot spend the time in class. What I am looking for here is the most efficient way to finish up, money and time being the consideration. If I can get a degree in under water basket weaving because it's the cheapest and fastest route to finish, sign me up. My goal here is just to get the accredited degree, nothing more.

Just want to add a note here. Do these colleges accept only lower division units, or will some, all, accept upper division university credits too?

The Big 3 will take both upper and lower credits, plus some lower level courses will count as upper level. What type of classes do you need to finish? Math, Science? Do you want to finish at your current school or at one of the big 3? Fastest would be at TESC, because you can transfer in most or all of your credits and you wouldn't have to take a class with them.

If you post a transcript to show your courses there are several people on here that can look at it and probably even tell you what major would be best. Depending on what credits you've taken and how they fit the program you switch into you may be able to only have to take those 28 credits to finish and may be able to fill them all with CLEP/DSST/Other Exams, or other courses through ALEKS, Straighterline, or FEMA.

Your best choice is to spend the money and get an evaluation done by one of the schools. It takes weeks to come back but will easily show you where you need to fill in the credits.

If you don't already have an AA degree you might be able to pick that up along the way just for fun!
My completed "non-traditional" credits include 27 credits from CLEP, 30 credits from DSST, 6 credits from ALEKS, 19 credits from FEMA courses including PDS, 3 credits from NFA courses, 10 credits from ACE Workplace Training, 3 credits from a TESC TECEP exam, and 3 credits from a TESC PLA course.
