I remember when I was joining they said my dual enrollment courses wouldn't count(even though they were from an accredited CC and on a transcript).

I will have to see if I can find a Navy recruiter to talk to. Ugh, I thought this was going to be simple!

Can I ask what kind of job your son is interested in and what kind of degree he'd be interested in as well?

My teenage son is considering his options, and one of them is enlisting right after high school. He's thinking Navy, and I know that they give you a higher rank for having a certain amount of college credit.
Can anyone tell me if ACE credit counts, including CLEP? And if they will take it off an ACE transcript, or does it have to be on a college transcript? And if so, what would you suggest as the easiest way to do this?
Thanks for your help - I'm in new territory here and don't want to screw this up.
Military willl accept credit that is ACE accredited.

"Online or distant learning must be from a U.S. community college, college, or university accredited for postsecondary education and listed in the Accredited Institutions of Post Secondary Education published by the American Council on Education. Classes must be of the 100 and higher variety as remedial courses are NOT authorized for use in determining whether you qualify for Advanced Pay-grade. "
Study.Com, CLEP and Sophia are on the approved list so check the list for any questions.

A quick Google give Nukes a six + figure salary on the outside. But airline pilots have that also.
Grab all the schools they will give you.
If he decides to try for the officer programs CLEP wiill transfer and knock out his GE
in many but not alll the schools they can send him.
Wish you the best and God Bless.

Thanks for the tips. I do know some non-recruiters, so maybe I'll try to talk to them. That's helpful to know.
As for his job, I'm not sure he knows yet - he's only 16, so we will have to research that. I don't think he wants to do subs, or nuclear, so that's probably out. But we're doing the ASVAB for fun (thanks public library for the free online exams), and then we will probably do a lot more research over the next 2 years. He is interested in IT, but if they don't have that as a job in the Navy, he can always wait until after he gets out to go into the field.

They rotate shifts so no one is sleeping at the same bed at the same time. He only has like half a rack to store all his stuff. And not to mention sometimes they don't surface or port calls for 3 months. Being stuck in a tiny metal box underwater with no windows, no internet and no personal space for 3 months. No thanks.
He has told me the people on carriers sometimes there is enough space some people get two beds for one person and all this extra space to store belongs. They aren't underwater and get fresh air. Tons more space plus with more people they don't have to work as many shifts on duty standing watch.
But subs do get paid more though. If I were to ever join the Navy I'd go carrier for sure. Or even better get job that is basically all on land.
