I just found out that I'm missing a book for my current Graduate course. I enrolled at AMU in HIST-551 American Revolution in Context about a month and a half before the course started. I ordered my books according to what their book list said way ahead of time. I started class today and when I read the syllabus, it has a different book listed that I need.
The bad part, is that the missing book is needed for the first two weeks and weeks 5 & 6 to answer the discussion questions.
So I double checked with the school again, and sure enough, it is not the same as the syllabus. To get a book delivered over here takes about a month.
I shot an email to the professor's work, personal, and emergency email address to tell him about this, and he replied that the school was the one that told him to update his syllabus, but I guess they forgot to update their own info and book list.
Anyways, I told the professor my situation and told him I would drop the course if this will be a problem, and he just told me to use the wrong book that I currently have, the info should be the same except for the author's point of view. Then continue the course with the correct book once I get it, and told me "DO NOT DROP THE COURSE".
I'm glad that at least AMU has understanding professors.

Can someone get a copy of the correct book and scan the material you need and email it to you? I would make AMU do that for you! What about an E-book version you can use on the computer? I had a similar experience with my grad class a few months ago. The book on the book list hasn't been published by the publisher in over two years and was last reviewed 3 years prior to that and is considered out of print and outdated by the publisher. The school bookstore was still using the book because they had plenty of copies at $120 a pop for an outdated book. I complained to the program head that we shouldn't be using such badly outdated material and he declined to do anything about it since their bookstore still had copies. Sometimes I wonder what the heck these schools are thinking. They just fly on auto-pilot sometimes and don't bother to check that they are putting out the most current info. I hope you are able to get this fixed. At least your professor is understanding and will work with you. Good luck!

In the meantime you can at possible read some of the books online, put each ISBN into google and see if you can preview them.
It says your second and firth book is available free, in ebook format, from the online library.

I love online books. You can probably rent it for 50 bucks at Rent online textbooks and eResources for half the price of printed college textbooks. | CourseSmart. I am currently renting about 6 books from them.

Thanks for the replies and good ideas. I tried looking for ebooks and audiobooks to download but could not find it. Maybe its because many sites are blocked from over here. The book is The Glorious Cause: The American Revolution, 1763-1789 by Robert Middlekauff.
I just ordered a used copy from Amazon for $10. I had it sent to my wife back home which should take about 4-10 days, then when she puts it in the mail it will be 5-6 days to get to me. It usually takes about 4-5 weeks to get a book straight to directly from Amazon. The Professor was fine with me using the old/wrong book until I get the correct one.

Maybe your wife can scan and email a few pages before she sends it to you?
It does sound like the prof is totally understanding and that could mean that he'll be grading in your favor..

Finally my crappy internet decided to cooperate. I was able to download the Kindle app for my laptop and downloaded the book for $10. Looks like everything will turn out okay. :hurray:

That's happened to me twice with AMU/APUS--being told to get the wrong books. Just comes with the territory, I guess. *rolls eyes* But I figure if that is my biggest complaint, I'll get over it, it's just a minor nuisance. Sorry it happened to you though.
