American Government CLEP
#1
Hello everyone,

I am pretty new to this IC and its forum. I wanted to ask different opinions on study material I am using. I first started off purchasing the REA book and study guide in hopes I can understand AG. Unfortunately it isn't helping. I went ahead and bought IC for it's flash cards and mock up tests and so far I am doing good on flash card mastery. I have mastered two sets out of the 5( I forget how many there is) in the course of 2 ish days. I find it easier because I remember by repetition rather... instead just knowing how questions and answers look like. I am supplementing also the REA tests, the diagnostics and two exams it comes with. First attempt on diagnostic was a 14%. After doing some of the flash cards and some educational guesses, I took it a second time and scored a 40%. So I guess I must be doing something right.

I want to know opinions of those that have taken it if there ARE things I should absolutely remember instead of just remembering how it looks on the flashcard if that makes sense. I apologize if this post seems like it's everywhere. I am scrambling to take the CLEP after neglecting taking national government since I started college last year, so here I am.

Thank you !

Hi AllenG117,

I just took the American Government final at TESU which is probably the same thing as the TECEP and similar to CLEP.  I have not done any CLEPs yet, so I don't know if they are harder or easier.

I used the practice test on repeat to 'memorize' the questions hoping they would be the same but I only had 3 questions the same.  I passed because I slowed down and looked up things I didn't know or understand. ( I also briefly used the clep prep course on study.com, which I highly recommend as they are very thorough and have short videos for each concept.  You could also consider modernstates.com which is free.  If you're getting a 40% after memorizing, I'd recommend studying each section that you missed in greater depth, so you understand the concepts.

Hopefully someone else can let you know if the IC flashcards are exactly what you'd get on the test.

Good luck!
