I have also seen programs in which a student can earn a BA/BS from (usually) a state university, while taking all of the courses at the community college campus.
This doesn't really have anything to do with what the OP was asking, I just thought it was interesting discussion.

Those community colleges are now 4-year colleges because they offer 4-year degrees.

Actually a great question!!
No matter how long it takes, a bachelor's degree is considered a 4 year degree. So, if you inject CLEP exams, you're pressing the fast forward button a lot! (yeah!!) But, in contrast, if it takes you 6 years to complete a bachelor's degree, you've still only got a 4 year degree. The term "4 year degree" isn't really a technical term, it's slang for "bachelor's degree." Hope that helps!
