UptonSinclair Wrote:The reason I earn credit from places other than Excelsior where I am enrolled is cost. Excelsior charges about almost twice what I pay at Fort Hays for my classes. Unfortunately, Fort Hays isn't as helpful with my CCAF transfer credits. Also, with Excelsior I have the opportunity to get a BS with a major rather than the Bachelor of General Studies at Fort Hays. My tuition assistance days are long behind me and I missed the post 9/11 GI Bill by two months. Cheap is very important.

That makes sense. I will probably do the 2 classes I need for the AAS through TESC just for simplicity sake. Then we'll wreak havoc on the BSBA...creativity will be key.

Hey, just wanted to ask if I can copy that to my computer and use it as my own little template? I would say about 90% of your degree path lines up with mine, and it makes it soooo easy when choosing classes. Who knew something so simple could be sooo amazingly awesome? Smile

I guess I should ask the school this, but is there pretty much no way for someone like me to do CLEP outside of the US? I'm mobilized and we have a TINY base that doesn't have an education center or anything like that, so I am guessing I'm out of luck until I get back to the States, right? My understanding is you have to go to an actual CLEP center to do the tests. I could be wrong, again, I'm just now learning all of this. Smile

As far as I know every command should have some sort of educational specialist no matter what branch of service you are in and I am pretty sure that something has to be set up for you or anyone else to be able to take CLEP/DSST over seas since I believe that it's one of the few guaranteed benefits or rights that you have in the military. I know that in the Navy at least, CLEP/DSST was offered on carriers so I know there has to be a way in place for you to take these where you are at. Education in the Navy is such a big deal that I was actually able to take classes while underway on a submarine. Education is a big deal in the military which is why I am sure that there has to be a way...

I definitely hear what you are saying, but it's kind of hard to explain without going into too much detail. It's just not that much of a base. More like a large COP, small FOB if you really want to get technical. So I am quite certain there is no center for it, I'll just have to ask the command group if they have an education rep here. Thanks for the input and ideas though! Smile

It's been a while since I commented, I've been trying to get through some rough/intense weeks at work. I've also had a chance to "sit down" with my adviser and go over some options for my degree plan. So basically what she told me was that if I finish my AAS before October, I should be good without having to do the capstone. I guess for the AAS in ACS, the capstone isn't even available yet. So as long as you pay for graduation stuff before then, you will get the capstone waived. That is awesome news for me! Also, she moved some things around so that I can take MAn 373, LAW 201, SOS 110, and ENG 102 (all of which count for my BSBA) and that will fulfill all my requirements for the AAS.

Here's a question for all of your Straighterline/Penn Foster gurus out there. I was told that you need to check with ACE about the courses with these two because they can lose their "accreditation" with ACE, and no longer be accepted by TESC. That being said...I looked at ACE, and I don't see the Penn Foster Managerial Communications or Introductory Business Law classes listed. I see the Business Communication and Business Law I and II classes, listed at the link below, but don't know if those are even valid??

ACE CREDIT | The National Guide to College Credit for Workforce Training

Can I just contact ACE to see if they are still valid? Or do I need to try to find other courses that are listed exactly on the ACE website? Thanks in advance for all the help!!

P.S. I have already contacted ACE via their form on the website, and will wait for a response...

I took 2 courses with TESC for my second bachelors. I took a 300 level computer architecture course and a 300 level environmental science 6cr course.
I really liked the computer architecture course and the env science was one of the easiest courses I have ever taken. Most of the people dropped computer architecture but nobody dropped env science if that is any indication. The comp arch course was challenging however the homework assignments were worth a lot of the grade. This is a real computer science course and you will need to dedicate time to it. TESC courses are a bit pricier than other schools but they are absolutely cheap compared to PhD level graduate courses so it didn't bother me to spend some money on them.

In hindsight, I probably should have made my second major computer science instead of nat sci/math but it would have required me to take many more courses.

Ahh, makes sense. I think I might look into the Environmental Science course, we shall see. I think I have most of my plan laid out but I'm still trying to work out the little kinks. If you don't mind me asking, what do you do when you're not banging out degrees? Smile I like hearing from people that are in the IT industry and seeing how their degrees maybe helped them in their career, etc. Thought you might be doing IT stuff due to your choice of degrees. At any rate, thanks for the info!

Just got off the phone with their express line. They said that the only capstone being waived is the APS - 295, but maybe that is the same capstone for all AAS degrees? Not sure...
