BALS @ TESU - restarting engine after 2 yr break
#1
Hey guys! I'm back! Had to take a hiatus due to the adoption of our foster son and figure out the whole life balance thing as a working mom - boy, what a whirlwind!

Can someone send me an updated version of the spreadsheet for BALS with equivalencies?

This is what I have now as a rough outline...would like to see what my plan of attack is moving forward!

A. Intellectual and Practical Skills (completed 6 / need 15 units)

ENG101 College Composition I 12/01/92 - 3 credits
LIBRA1101 Intro to Libraries & Info Age 05/01/17 - 3 credits

B. Civic & Global Learning (completed 0 / need 9 units)

already paid for through SL -

Sociology 101: Intro to Sociology

C. Knowledge of Human Cultures (completed 3 / need 12 units)

ART101-Introduction to Art-12/01/92 - 3 credits

D. Understanding the Physical & Natural World (completed 0 / 4-7 units)

General Education Electives (completed 0 / need 17-20 units)

already paid for through SL -

Introduction to Psychology – PSY101
Introduction to Nutrition – NUTRI101

Area of study:

18 UL UNITS (completed 6)

History 108: History of the Vietnam War - completed 10/09/2017 - 3 credits

FRS101 Freshman Seminar 12/01/92 - 1 credit
HEA110 Health Science 05/01/93 - 3 credits
LIBRA1105 Readers Advisory 05/01/17 - 3 credits
CIS175 Intro to Networking 03/01/04 - 3 credits
Education 103: Classroom Management - 3 credits
Education 104: Differentiated Instruction - 3 credits

-----------------------

1. I've contacted admissions since my Academic Evaluation disappeared due to the lapse and wanted to see what has changed since I left! I see that I need to reapply and pay the $75 application fee again.

2. I've started the free Ethics course through The Institute today. Not sure about any other course changes, such as TEEX courses?

3. I see that ALEKS is semi-proctored and timed for knowledge check. That's ok - ALEKS didn't really work for me when I tried it initially.

4. Any changes to the Study.com discount? I see that the "Residency Fee Waiver" is still on the website, and it looks like I will have to take the SOS-110 course? I don't know what that is, but since I only have 40 credits completed, I suppose it's not something to worry about now?

Thanks!!!!

The ethics course is pretty much the same. The TEEX courses have recently been renewed by ACE with more credits but at lower-division.

Other changes include:
  • Many courses that had formerly been accepted as UL by TESU are now LL due to policy changes last summer. They pretty closely follow ACE and NCCRS recommendations now. This means many of the former sources for UL credits are all LL now.
  • TESU no longer accepts Shmoop courses for credit.

The Study.com tuition discount is unchanged and the residency waiver fee discount is not as deep as it used to be. The Study.com cornerstone waiver is also gone, which is why you will now have to complete the new cornerstone course, which is SOS-110. This is a normal 12-week 3 credit course which also meets the Information Literacy GenEd requirement for every degree. This is in addition to the capstone course requirement.

Thanks, Merlin! I'll have to research further on the UL/LL changes, thank you so much for the clarification!!

I tried clicking on the link in bjcheung77's signature for the 2018 spreadsheet, but it redirects to the same thread. Sad

Anyone have it handy by any chance?

Thanks!

CarpeDiem8, click the link again in the signature. If you are looking for the spreadsheet, it should be on post 28 and a newer post #31. These are just examples, you can change things around if you need to.
