Bold Statement
#1
In looking up the Sophia.org and Capella university partnership, I found a claim in their marketing literature that is pretty bold and in my opinion, and an outright lie.

"Founded in 1993, Capella University was the first to leverage technology to provide higher education opportunities to adult students who didn’t fit the traditional, campus-bound model."

I clearly remember the local community colleges providing T.V. correspondence courses on PBS way before this. Is television not considered technology?

Thoughts?

Don't waste time by trying to save time. The only sure way to complete your degree is to knock out credits quickly and efficiently.

Don't let easiness bite you in the rear. Know your endgame (where you want to be) and plan backward from there. Your education is a means to an end.

Be honest professionally, socially and academically. There are people (especially little ones) who look up to you and they're going by your example.

Be proud. Whether you're an Engineer or Fast Food worker, there is honor and dignity in hard work.

Picking on people weaker than you only proves that you are a weak person.

I was just reading an old thread on the other forum curious about which school first offered an online degree program. Even if you were to narrowly focus on the Internet, there are other schools that predate Capella in offering online programs.

HES was offering "distance education" on Navy ships through operation polaris in the 40's I believe. I'm also pretty certain they partnered with WGBH Boston to provide courses almost in concert with the advent of public TV. COSC was founded in 1973, the target has always been the non-traditional learner. I expect such nonsense from the likes of Capella though...
MBA, Western Governors University February 2014
BS Charter Oak State College November 2011
AS in EMS August 2010

I'm always happy to complete the free application waiver for those applying to WGU (I get a free gift from WGU for this).  Just PM me your first/last name and a valid email so I can complete their form.
