CUNY - Online Degree Completion ($4,575! Transfer up to 105 credits out of 120!)

I would assume that those 15 required (residency) credits will need to be taken in the major/AoS of the selected degree program. So they will most likely be UL or a mix of UL and LL courses. That is how it works at most degree-completion colleges with similar transfer policies.

By the way, I found CUNY awards 12 credits for Google IT Support coursera certificate!

https://sps.cuny.edu/academics/undergrad...e-learning

Check "Information Technology Credentials" section of this page!

Google IT Support Professional Certificate (IS 200, IS 205, IS 260, IS 300) - 12 credits

You can get 12 credits towards their online BS in Information Systems degree.

Here's full curriculum of BS in Information Systems online program at CUNY:

I may grab this degree after I finish my current one.

If you want easier credit transfer, I'd go with 'Liberal Studies' major... which is a combination of all kinds of subjects.

BS IT seems to have more than the 12cr Google IT  for AOS/Major... Do you have any suggestions transferring in 105 Cr and taking GOOGLE IT at CUNY plus 3cr capstone?

CUNY has a 15 credit residency requirement which means you'd have to take those from them directly. Of the 105 credits of transfer they accept, 60 of those have to be from an RA college or university, so the Google IT cert from Coursera would represent 12 of the 45 open transfer credits remaining.

Regardless of the source, you won't be able to transfer in more than 105 credits or take less than 15 credits directly from CUNY.

So, if they request 15 CUNY credits, it is $4575 to spend in them credits. What about other costs??

I mean, we know that COSC is about $3000 for degree, EC about $5000 and TESU is about $8000.

What are CUNY final cost for a degree??
BSBA: 70% completed (84 credits of 120)

CUNY will cost you about $5k total including all kinds of fees, I believe.

But CUNY has much better reputation than COSC, TESU, EC. CUNY ranks among top 1,000 universities in the world.

Also, their graduate employment ranking is top 301th-500th in the world.

To start with there is a one-time $70 application fee.

It looks like you're looking at a minimum of 15 credits to be taken from CUNY directly. They have different rates for full-time (≥ 12 credits per semester) and part-time students (< 12 credits per semester). If you can complete at least 12 credits (~4 courses) in a single semester, you qualify as full time and you'll pay a flat rate of $3,465 per semester. Otherwise, you will pay $305 per credit attempted.

So, if you can complete all 15 credits in a single semester, you'll only pay $3,465 in tuition per semester. If you cannot manage 15 credits, but you can manage 12, then you'll pay $3,465 + 3 x $305 = $4,380 in tuition across two terms. Failing that, you'll pay 15 x $305 = $4,575 in tuition across 2+ terms.

In addition to tuition, you will have to pay for books since this is still a traditional university. These can vary in cost from free (they have a few courses with zero-cost free-access books) to $200+ for each book, depending on the subject (and you may need more than one per course). They do offer a discount for books purchased at their bookstore, but you can usually get better deals online. I would baseline at least $100 per course in books. So let's call it $500 for five courses to be safe. There may also be materials fees if you're doing a lab or something, which can vary.

After that you have fees...
  • CUNY consolidated services fee (per term) = $15
  • CUNY Technology Fee (per term) = $125 (for full-time) or $62.50 (for part-time)
  • CUNY SPS Student Activity Fee (per term - fall and spring terms only) = $23.55
  • Student Senate Fee (per-term - fall and spring terms only) = $1.45
  • Infrastructure Fee (per-term - online students only) = $75
So, for online students, it looks like you can add another $177.50 per term (part-time) or $240 per term (full-time) to cover those fees. They also charge extra for late fees, change of course fees, readmission fees, returned check fees, etc. That's all pretty standard and can be avoided.

I don't see a graduation fee. Most schools have this, but it may just not be listed on the regular fees page. For now I am just assuming no graduation fee.

So, if you're doing a part-time program, spread across two terms, you'll be looking at: $70 application fee + $4,575 in tuition + $500 in books + $355 in general fees (two terms) = $5,500 to complete the courses at CUNY. Plus graduation fee if they have one.

If you can do it in a single term, you're looking at $70 + $3,465 +$500 + $240 = $4,275 (plus graduation fees, if any).

In either case, that puts them below TESU, on par with EC, and a bit higher than WGU and COSC in overall costs. That is actually pretty good.

Of course, the other thing to consider is the transferability of credits. You'll need to transfer in at least 60 RA credits and up to 45 ACE (Saylor) credits. So you either need to have already taken them or have the means to do so cheaply and add in those costs. You will also need to somehow ensure that the courses you took (or are taking) will be directly applicable to the courses in the degree program at CUNY. This will be the hard part since transfer credit is the biggest problem when trying to do anything like this. This is also where going to the Big 3 or WGU has an advantage since we already know how most courses will transfer to those places. We have no idea how courses will be assessed at CUNY and where they will fit into a degree evaluation.

Getting those RA credits will be the hardest part (and most time consuming and expensive). The ACE credits will vary from $0 to $150 per course or so depending on where you get them. Right now CUNY appears to only accept Saylor courses, so if you can manage to find 15 courses that will fit into your degree program (good luck) and you can overcome their issues, you're looking at $25 x 15 = $375. Hopefully they will accept courses from Straighterline, Study.com, Sophia, and ICC in the future.
