Hello everyone!
I recently noticed that UMPI's webpage for the BABA Project Management & Information Systems says that MAT 131 Calculus can be taken in place of MAT 140 Mathematics for Business. According to UMPI's official transfer equivalency database, Sophia's Calculus course should transfer in as MAT 131 Calculus. However, the degree plans that I have seen for this major include Study.com's Business 110: Business Math instead. Has anyone been able to successfully use Sophia's Calculus course to meet the MAT 140 Mathematics for Business requirement for the BABA Project Management & Information Systems?
Thank you!

At this time, yes MAT131 is an option for the BABA. It's only an option as a substitution for MAT140 in the BABA. It is not an option for the math GEC reqs in the other degrees or the BA minor. MAT140 is a MUCH easier math than Calc.

I transferred in that Sophia course for MAT131....I also took MAT140 at UMPI. MAT140 was probably one of the easiest courses I have taken at UMPI to be honest. Its a super fast course

I actually took Sophia's Calculus 1 to improve my math skills and I was surprised it waived that course specifically when I did the BABA. I did see MAT140 as a requirement when I was considering doing the program, but I'm glad to hear that most people had a relatively smooth time with it.

super easy. Milestones are just 5-10 questions of math problems and you respond with a word doc in showing your work. final was a PowerPoint on calculating employee pay with taxes. Seriously the easiest class I have had so far. I 1000% say take at UMPI. the math is all simple math like adding, subtraction, percentages

I did update the Wiki so others can know that Calculus can work for the MAT 140 requirement.
It does save a bit of money versus doing Business Math at Study.com and some people don't mind the challenge of Calculus.

Agreed. Mat140 was easier. I had Calc credits that I transferred to UMPI and still had to take it

If you need a class to meet the requirements for the 30 credits of residency credits, this may be one of the 10 classes you can select from... Always mix/match the requirements to your study habits, decide on the classes you want to take versus the ones you want to transfer into the degree of choice at UMPI or any other institution of choice for that matter...
