Can someone PLEASE help me with this computer specs issue?!
#1
I purchased my offspring Trainz A New Era. He has flight and train simulators which he likes to play on a PC. Our last game would not work on our computer because it didn't meet the minimum specs required.

The one I want to buy:

Processor: Intel Core™ i7-4790 Processor (8M Cache, up to 4.00 GHz)
Operating system: Windows 8.1 Professional 64 - English
Display: None - Desktop
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 620
Memory: 8 GB PC3-12800 DDR3 SDRAM 1600MHz UDIMM Memory
Hard Drive: 1TB, 7200RPM Serial ATA 3.5" Hard Drive
Optical Drive: DVD Recordable Serial ATA

Game's requirements:

CPU: Intel i5 3330/AMD FX 8350 or better, Quad physical core, 64 bit, 2.3Ghz or better
8 GB RAM
GPU: NVIDIA GTX 660 or better/ AMD HD 6950 or bette
DX: Version 11
OS: Windows 8.1 64bit
HDD: 30 GB available space
Don't miss out on something great just because it might also be difficult.

The graphics on the system you specified do not meet the requirements. The gt620 is less powerful than the GTX 660.

Thank you. Can you recommend a model that would meet this game's requirements in a reasonably priced range? By reasonable I mean around 600-1000 for a PC. Or is that dreaming?

Here is a selection of affordable systems that exceed the requirements for the game. Please read up on the systems before making a purchase. There are few things less embarrassing than giving purchase advice and having it turn out poorly. I typically avoid the situation. I love Newegg as a company and find the reviews trustworthy so at a minimum read the reviews listed on their site. In addition I would suggest googling the model number for the system you intend to purchase and see if you can find some reviews by tech media companies like cnet. You should be able to purchase a decent system in the price range you have listed.

have you ever considered building your own ?

here's one that is more than capable of fulfilling your needs
System Builder Marathon Q3 2015: Gaming PC

it could be a great learning project for your kid

it's not that difficult to build a pc
I've only built 3 over the years, but it was very easy each time
I've only needed to build 3 because I get quality parts so they last a long time

building a pc is almost always MUCH cheaper than buying one

and yes, newegg is the best
very trustworthy, great return policy

I tend to believe that it is more expensive to build a system from scratch. There are many costs that people don't consider; keyboard, mouse, case, power supply, operating system, etc. It is easy to compare the costs by pricing the individual components and operating system. In the 20+ years I have been building systems I have never been able to build a comparable system for less money. It is tough to compete with the bargaining power of OEMs.

Here is an article from Lifehacker that covers the issue. According to the article there are no simple answers.

Building my own while in graduate school and working full time? No thank you. Lol

I may look into that as a hobby later on if the system I end up purchasing has expansion capabilities.
