Capstone Topic Review and Help
#11
Digi-212, thank you so much for this info. I do have the textbook from 2017. One of the forum members forwarded it to me. So, you are saying that there is no way around actually conducting a survey, and gathering data. I am a bit unnerved by this, as no one on this forum has brought this up before. How many people did you survey?

As of about a year ago, the TESU capstone required the use of "primary sources". Alot of people think that means doing your own surveys or such, but that is not the case (in fact it is discouraged, as you have to have your survey reviewed by TESU's Institutional Review Board, before you send it out). Instead, just look at what a "primary source" is, and you'll see you have many options.

Here are a few links for reference:

https://libguides.colostate.edu/howtodo/...esexamples
http://www.ala.org/rusa/sections/history...arysources
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Primary_source

In short, you don't need to create a survey or do your own data collection.

Thank you. That makes sense. In fact, that was one of my concerns. I am learning about research ethics, and getting one’s research/survey methods reviewed by the IRB is such an important step. I was wondering how to go about all that. I can definitely look for primary sources.
