Cheap accredited MLIS
#1
Wink
I am looking for an affordable online MLIS program that's ALA-accredited? Join the club! Balancing full-time work, life expenses, and self-funded education is no joke.

I'm eyeing LSU as a potential option, but before I dive in, I need some specifics. Are there any scholarships specifically geared towards BIPOC students? Also, asynchronous learning is crucial for me due to my unpredictable schedule.

Of course, cost is a huge factor. And with my 4+ year library work experience, I can't commit to an internship. So, if anyone has insights or experiences with ALA-accredited online MLIS programs, especially at LSU or elsewhere, please share your wisdom! If you went please share your exp. SJSU is affordable but has MORE Classes and an internship. Any help is appreciated.

Valdosta State's program is, I think, the cheapest online, ALA accredited MLS/MLIS.  I don't know that their website highlights ALA, but if you review the ALA website Valdosta is there.  No internship or field study required.

Emporia State University's degree is cheaper than LSU's and I don't think it requires field experience.

The University of Alabama's degree doesn't require field experience and the tuition is less than LSU's, but if memory serves they tend to hit you with a lot of fees, so definitely check on that if UA interests you!

@theea, Awesome! When I was much younger, I actually wanted to be a librarian (well, that was one of a few I had in mind). BTW, Which state are you in? Have you looked at online options in your state? I would search those institutions first then the three mentioned earlier in post #2. Have you completed your UMPI residency credits for the Bachelors you were working on already?
