Cheapest Bachelors Degree
#1
I'm pretty sure that it's not actually the cheapest but it's probably in the Top 10.

UMPI is definitely cheaper, with the help of Sophia, and even TESU might beat that price. But, for someone who doesn't want to deal with competency-based or chasing down credits from multiple sources, that's not a bad price. Doubly true if those are graded credits and you want to be able to get into a grad program that expects graded credits.

If anyone here is interested in this degree, I found the school's information page: https://www.suu.edu/bgs/ You can PLA up to 15 credits. https://www.suu.edu/blog/2020/08/prior-l...sment.html

If you have prior credit from another school, you can see transfer equivalencies here: https://www.suu.edu/admissions/transfer-guide.html

30 credits may be brought to SUU via CLEP and/or their own challenge exams: https://www.suu.edu/registrar/additional-credit.html Their challenge exams can only be taken in person, as far as I can tell, there is no remote proctoring. They don't appear to accept ACE credits at all beyond CLEP.

If you did CLEP for 30 credits, you could bring the cost of this degree down to $6750 (assuming free CLEP through ModernStates). Bring in credits earned via TEL and/or ONU to potentially drop the cost down even further.

If SUU keeps their program going at $75/credit Upper Level and allows up to 90 credits transfer, it may be a pretty good deal...

@bj I believe any of those majors would cost more. The bachelor of general studies page said that the $75 per credit fee was only for that program.

The article said that the only reason why they're able to offer the BGS for so cheap is that there are so few course choices right now. Instead of being able to choose from the full catalog, you only get to pick from a couple of different courses. Hopefully, they expand their offerings in the future.

And they have additional requirements:

- 40cr of UL required
- 30cr residency
- Math is required to be above Intermediate Algebra (major deal-breaker for some)
- the BA requires 16cr of a foreign language which would certainly be a deal-breaker for MANY people (2 full years of a foreign language - yikes!) (French, German, Spanish
or Chinese is all they teach there
- the BS requires 12cr of math or science

Hmm, I wonder, would these be usable upper level credit? I mean, for $75/credit, it's $225 for 3 UL graded credits from a Regionally Accredited institution. I think these can be transferred elsewhere, say to the Big 3 or other RA institutions. They have some interesting UL courses... to find the courses, click the link here: https://www.suu.edu/bgs - there is a link for "What courses are available" Summer 2021 and Fall 2021.

There is no full catalog for this as they have a specific set of courses available for the BGS, their answer to my question was, it's already listed on the website under "What courses are available for Summer 2021 and for Fall 2021". I assume they'll add more when they find out for Winter or Spring 2022!
