Commencement Announcement

Did anyone receive the commencement announcement today that they said was being emailed out today to graduates? I didn’t receive one and now I’m paranoid I’m not part of the class of 2024 even though I applied for graduation.

Just be on the safe side and email them, your advisor, whoever else you can get in contact with at UMPI, even the registrar...

Was it part of something for on campus students? Commencement is the physical walk on campus. It's technically not graduation. Everyone who completes their degree program and applies for graduation will graduate. Walking in Commencement is not a requirement.

It was supposed to go to all members of the class of 2024 whether they’re attending commencement or not

An electronic Commencement Announcement will be emailed to you as a PDF and JPG on Wednesday, April 17, 2024. Each member of the Class of 2024 will also receive one free printed announcement; these can be picked up in the Registrar's Office when picking up your tickets.

Well then that would be for folks on campus and not in YourPace. I remember getting the tickets was going to be an issue when I looking at attending Commencement because you had to pick them up by a certain date on campus and it was like a week or 2 before Commencement.

Not sure why an emailed PDF and JPG of a commencement announcement would not be valid for Yourpace students?

I reached out to the sender of the email Lisa Smith and she's out of the office for a week starting today. Reached out to her backups. We'll see.

Because the PDF would have been created when they had the printed announcements made. They were to be picked up at the Registrar's Office. It's probably to get students to buy printed announcements from a vendor. There are numerous things that take place at Commencement that you only get if you're there in person and YourPace students are left out unfortunately. I speak from experience after having graduated with the campus virtually in 2021 it was eyeopening to see what we missed out in 2022 when in person Commencement was back. I won't say the particulars because it would ruin it for those making the trip.

Basically, If you're in the state or can get flight for commencement, you should see if you can make it, plan towards that and email the people at UMPI who can get you to commencement. Otherwise, if you're busy and can't make commencement, then you can always review the video of it when they release the video...
