Um, I just meant being able to test out of stuff I already know and stuff that I can learn quickly and easily online or from a study guide, in the comfort of my own home, instead of sitting at a desk, staring at the clock, listening to Charlie brown's teacher talk like a trombone.

I do, however, prefer self checkout : (  (Except when it says, "Please wait for an attendant. Help is on the way." for no apparent reason.

That's what introduced me to CLEP tests when far fewer people had ever heard of them.

I have visited the ACE website, but thanks for the NCCRS link. I'll check it out.

I'm a homeschool dad, and have been planning for a long time for my kids to earn at least an Associate's while in their high school years. But as I just now began looking for a simple course to try with my oldest boy (only 11) to gauge his understanding, I decided to also pursue a degree for myself.

I'm a small business owner and a published author, but I always wanted to earn a degree, but wasn't clear in what subject (definiately communications, with many business courses and a few education courses thrown in). But more importantly, I have always hated sitting at a desk, in a classroom, while somebody talks at me. It would seem, as I told my brother, that technology has finally caught up with my personality : )

Literally, my exact path.
All 4 kids homeschooled, around middle school I stumbled upon CLEP. Took a CLEP (wow). Took lots of CLEPs (double wow). Earned an AA and BA because, well, it was SO AWESOME to earn credit this way. I spent 18 months from 0 to AA & BA. I could have went faster if I wasn't homeschooling, running a house with 4 kids, and well, breastfeeding 24/7 lol. But seriously, I spend my days helping homeschool parents figure out ways to bring college credit into their homeschool and every now and again it hits the parent like a lightbulb "wait! I think I can do this too!" And that gets the ball rolling. I say go for it! Smile

Plus, I'll be able to tell my kids "You can do it," not just because I've heard about other people doing, but because I've done it with them watching.

I am taking the Google IT Support Specialist program on coursera. I am taking the course for free by a grant from JFF through Stark State College in Ohio. From speaking with the IT Dept. Head, the college will grant me 15 semester credit hours that I can use towards their certificate in Computer Maintenance and Desktop Support Technician program after successfully completing the program. The certificate is stackable towards an Associate's degree. I found out about this program from a website called the Penny Hoarder.com and Google Grow.
