Credit Sources accepted by WGU, Hodges, NAU?
#1
I am considering WGU, Hodges, NAU or something similar for my computer savvy son. He is only in 10th grade so we are just trying to knock out some general ed up front for now. I was wondering if anyone that has experience with any of these colleges could let me know what type of credit sources they accept. Are they as generous as the Big 3 and accept any ACE, NCCRS, CLEP, DSST, UExcel/TECEP/CSU-Global CBE? I just want to make sure his GE credits would be likely to be accepted in the near future.

Thanks!

I know WGU accepts ACE (which includes CLEP & DSST), along with Study.com and SL (partner college - they give a discount for taking 4 courses there).

Hodges also said they would accept ACE.

That's as far as I've gotten with either of them.

Hodges will accept 30 credits of ACE for a BA. They refused to accept CSU Global CBE. The reasoning was that it did not have a grade. I argued that ACE does not have a grade either, but with no luck. I am not familiar with EXCel or TECEP but I assume if the transcript does not show a grade they won't take it. They will accept CLEP and DSST in addition to the 30 ACE credits.

Thank you, do you know the total limit on combined transfer credits they would let you come in with?

For Hodges Associate the last 20 cr must be completed with them. For Bachelor the final 32 cr must be with them. At least for the degrees I'm looking at. That's for competency based program. I think it's called UPower. I have not finished enrolling yet.

Thank you for sharing, it is indeed the competency program that I am interested in.

I am a WGU student and know for sure they accept CLEP, DSST, Straighterline, Saylor, Study.com. That's a great place to start. I have friends at many other schools that take ACE credits, even some very big name ones.

There's a user on here named @rowan555 who had her son start on these ACE credits in high school and he's about to graduate with his bachelor's at 18 (from WGU).
WGU - BS Business, HR - Completed September 2017

I would skip the free courses list in the wiki, ALEKS (expired) & Shmoop (not proctored and therefore not accepted) if you're going for WGU, otherwise, these schools will take ACE/NCCRS, CLEP/DSST, etc. Most schools accept up to 90 credits for Bachelors and up to 45 credits for the Associates.

If you like competency-based programs or think that's more for your son, here are other schools listed. I would recommend them over the Big 3 for more "hands-on approach", if you want more flexibility and transferability, the Big 3 is my choice of school to recommend you.

I would add WGU is the choice to go for, if you would like very similar options for IT/CS... Brandman and Hodges offer BSIT as well, at the same price points too! These below are Competency Based, you can work on a Masters afterward...

My recommendation of WGU (or other competency based) programs is a better fit than just a regular BSBA CIS/BA CS program.
A few other programs that are IT/Software Development based as well from several providers other than WGU... You should check them out!

Patten MBA IT - http://patten.edu/patten-online/online-d...echnology/
Patten tuition - http://patten.edu/admissions/online-tuition/

Note: I placed Patten in there as it would be a cheap/quick RA Masters degree when/if you wanted to do one after your Bachelors.
Several people finished the Master's program in 4 months and a grand total of $2 grand. You can't beat that with a rocket or a stick!

Who was able to end up doing this? I know the fourmonthmba.com guy attempted it but all signs point to him fizzling out when he dropped off the face of the Earth. Was someone around here able to do that? I'd like to see that success story.

I know Felix Wong and Passit came close with their WGU MBA timelines, but not quite the Patten 4 month term.
