Degree Planning (BLS Educational Studies)
#1
I am planning to enroll in the BLS with an Educational Studies minor in the Your Pace Program at UMPI. I’m currently taking the GEC requirements on Sophia and have been moving them fairly quickly. (Completing around 3 classes per week) My plan is to transfer the 40 CR of GEC from Sophia.

I found a spreadsheet on here and customized it to fit my plan. Can someone please review it to see if I am missing anything? I’m particularly concerned about the UL Elective Requirements… can I knock most of those out with Sophia/SDCM/Coursera? Or will most need to be taken at UMPI? My plan is attached via Excel.

Thank you so much for your help!

Your Location: Nashville, TN
Your Age: 36
What kind of degree do you want?: BLS Educational Studies (UMPI Your Pace)

I have the following credits from a previous online school I attended many years ago:

4 CR - HUMN101: Information Literacy
4 CR - DESIGN101: Design Fundamentals
4 CR - GRAPH110: Design Process
4 CR - COMM101: Interpersonal Communications

Budget: Budget is very important to me. I am trying to earn this degree in the most economical way possible. Trying not to spend more than $5k.

Commitments: I work from home FT but have a lot of flexibility and downtime during the day. My evenings are even more open. I don’t have many other commitments to worry about.

Dedicated time to study: 2-3 hours during the day, 3-4 hours in the evening. 5-7 hours on Sat and Sun.

Timeline: I want to finish as fast as possible.

Tuition assistance/reimbursement: N/A

Welcome to the board, great intro post with the addendum and template, I would recommend doing two things, a cross reference, and a double check.
Review the UMPI WIKI here, incorporate the 4 classes from the MAOL into your plan: https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Un...esque_Isle
UMPI WIKI links for gen ed and specific degrees, add the minors of choice from here: https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Category:UMPI

Thank you for the info! Would the 4 classes from the MAOL count toward my needed UL electives?  Thanks again!

You will need to take 30 credit hours at UMPI, so you'll probably be fine doing the UL electives there in addition to the ed studies classes.

I'm curious what kind of work you want to go into? I keep vacillating between the BLS with Ed. Studies and the B.A. Psych with Intl Studies or Ed. Studies....

If you're wanting to pivot to teaching via alt certification, know that some programs still require you to have a certain number of courses in the subject you want to teach, so it would be best to use your remaining UL elective credits for that.

For the international studies minor, I'm curious what are the foreign language requirements.

It says "Foreign Lang. - 6 hours above core for a total of 9 credits." Can you get this with alt credits? If so what courses can you take?

Thank you for the info! My goal is to eventually go into Elementary teaching.

If you were already proficient in a language, you could take the ACTFL test and earn up to 12 credits, depending on your score.

I had Intermediate Spanish at university years ago, but hadn't received credit for the beginner level courses, so I completed Spanish 1 & 2 on Sophia to get the credit.

I am back with an updated plan, hoping to get some guidance...

I am planning to enroll in the BLS with an Educational Studies minor in the Your Pace Program at UMPI.
I want to join the program with as many credits as I can possibly transfer. Here's what I've completed so far, along with my degree plan...

Is someone able to review this plan to ensure I've taken the right classes. I am also trying to figure out if I can fulfill 2 of the UL courses through Sophia or another program. (I highlighted that section in yellow)   Do those UL courses have to be taken at UMPI or can I take them elsewhere? I want trying to only take the minimum required 10 classes at UMPI, but maybe that's not possible with this path. If anyone has any suggestions for quick/easy UL classes I can fill in those spaces, I'd greatly appreciate it!

You could do a couple of upper level classes on Study dot com for your UL requirements. There is a special that brings the first month's price to around $70. Check out the discount link on bjcheung77 's post.

If you are already familiar with Principles of Marketing or Operations Management, Saylor Academy has a couple of upper level tests for $5 per exam that come in as BUS 330 Marketing Management and BUS 415 Operations Management.

If International Studies is the first or only minor, then no you can't transfer in all of the required credits. You must complete at least 9 at UMPI and there maybe UL requirements as well.

When I completed my BLS at UMPI, I was required to complete the majority of the 24 UL credits at UMPI so at least 13 had to be taken at UMPI.
