Excelsior Associates Question
#1
Hi - pardon the multiple associates threads, but I'm trying to help DH through a plan and he's looking at all of the big 3. I am a COSC expert and can easily put together a degree plan there Wink , but have a few questions about EC requirements.

After multiple forum searches and reviewing their website, my head is starting to hurt, so it just seems easier to ask!

First of all, what the heck does "additional arts & science" credits mean? What qualifies as an art and/or science? I'm trying to plug in all of his current credits and I don't know where they fit. I'm also just guessing at Humanities and Social Science. Is there some sort of list of how subjects meet different EC requirements?

Thanks!!

Hey, I know it can be confusing. Actually, I think it is much more confusing since they changed their website. Additional arts and sciences, is your choice for humanities and science classes to fill the rest of the degree requirements. If you look at the specific degree breakdown in the catalog for the program he plans on attending you will find a list of suggested classes. That along with the credit by examination booklet should give you some good ideas of what qualifies as what. I used the credit by exam booklet to look at how the different CLEP / DSST exams apply to humanites, science, core etc. You can use this as a guide for some of his other credits he may have from B&M etc. This guide can be found under their publications area. Let me know if you have specific course questions, as I will probably be able to give you some idea, since I have 3 degrees from them, I can probably come close.

The link to the booklet is great and clears up a lot of the confusion.

I'm still puzzled by the additional arts and sciences. Marianne, it sounds like what you're saying is that these credits could be met by any science or humanities tests? What about social science?

Thanks!

Yes, you have a minimum number of arts and science credits you have to have for every degree, then you have additional credits you have to complete and they are saying you can complete them by adding any assortment of arts and science credits that you want. These would include any of the humanities, sciences or social sciences.
