Excelsior BS in Cybersecurity
#1
Hello everyone, I'm planning on either Excelsior or TECU, and just got my degree template back from Excelsior showing which credits I still need (I transferred a bunch of credits from previous colleges). Can anyone suggest a good degree plan based on what I have left?

I have CompTIA Network+ and A+ certs as well. I do not know how to get these counted (or if they'll count as credit at all).

Natural Sciences and Mathematics Requirements
Discrete Math (3)
Statistics (3)

Arts and Sciences Electives
Arts and Sciences Electives (6)

Cybersecurity Component*
Microprocessors (3)
Intro to Cybersecurity (1)
Governance, Legal, and Compliance (3)
Cyber Security Defense in Depth (3)
Cyber Attacks and Defense (3)
Security Focused Risk Management (3)
Business Data Communications (3)
Operating Systems (3)
Overview of Computer Security (3)
Network and Application Security (3)
Computer Forensics (3)
System Administration (3)
CYS Electives - General (15)

Free Electives
Information Literacy (1)

*I understand that 15 credits must be "Upper Level", but it doesn't seem to specify which subjects need to be.

If I have to take most of the cybersecurity courses from EC, I get that - but I want to just take the bare minimum from them in order to speed this up and save a little money.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Stats and your liberal arts - as long as they can be LL - you can complete at Sophia which is $79 a month and you can take as many classes as you want in a month.

Info Lit MUST be taken at EC. There's no getting around that. Same with Cornerstone and Capstone.

Excelsior is very bad for tech degrees. They don't accept ANY computer classes from SDC which means that you have to take everything with EC. Cybersecurity is not really possible at TESU either. I think you can get part way there but then you have to take the remainder at TESU. You'd likely have to settle for a generic CS/CIS degree. WGU is the best option for Cybersecurity, assuming you're in the US.

NAU has a competency-based IT degree: https://nau.edu/online/bs-computer-infor...nology-pl/

So does University of Wisconsin: https://flex.wisconsin.edu/degrees-progr.../#overview

Walden has CIS and IT: https://www.waldenu.edu/online-bachelors-programs

Purdue Global has Cybersecurity: https://www.purdueglobal.edu/degree-prog...rsecurity/

Purdue is the most expensive but it's the only option I've seen if you MUST have a Cybersecurity degree and don't have acceess to WGU.
In progress:
TESU - BA Computer Science; BSBA CIS; ASNSM Math & CS; ASBA

Completed:
Pierpont - AAS BOG
Sophia (so many), The Institutes (old), Study.com (5 courses)
ASU: Human Origins, Astronomy, Intro Health & Wellness, Western Civilization, Computer Appls & Info Technology, Intro Programming
Strayer: CIS175, CIS111, WRK100, MAT210

That is similar to the conclusion I arrived at: that (basically) I would have to take most classes at the university I chose. So I ended up finding a totally different school - Fort Hays State University. The reason I chose them was due to them having such a low cost per-credit, and a totally online degree program.

They allow some credit transfers (for instance I am taking some DSST tests to fulfill some of my required credits). So I think that's just about the best situation I was able to find.
