One warning about a different C. S. Lewis book I recommended: A Grief Observed is a fabulous book, but the introduction isn't. Her perception of God wholly not Lewis's and she declares he means X when he really couldn't have meant anything but Y. The bit written by his step-son, however, is pretty good.

Here's another C.S. Lewis fan--my family has read his Chronicles of Narnia a few times and we all love his humor. Another favorite series of ours is Little House on the Prairie, which my mom has read aloud *more* than a few times. I guess it does have something to do with a family of all girls (well, besides my dad, but he likes the books too!), although Farmer Boy is one of our favorite books in the series.
Other reads I liked (or loved is probably the better word ) were Jane Eyre and some sci-fi books by Joel Rosenberg, The Last Jihad and The Last Days. The last two were part of a series as well that I never quite got around to finishing.
P.S. Hi Brittany! I just wanted to let you know that I will be using your lecture document on Reconstruction for my Civil War DSST next week. Thanks so much for posting it, as well as your other feedback on the test!

::grins:: My brother and I are reading that series together! We recently became addicts of the show (we're on season three now), and are now diving into the books. We're only a few chapters in, as my brother keeps LEAVING the state on trips without me, haha...
but oh my goodness, we love the show, and when I say love, I mean the watch-it-every-lunch-break-and-every-evening-if-possible type love. Our particular favorite characters are Charles (such a beast), Caroline (the most encouraging wife on television), John Edwards, Nels Oleson, and Doc Hanson... but really the whole town of Walnut Grove is wonderful.

The Little House books are amazing! We live a couple hours from the Little House on the Prarie and see it whenever we're in that area. It's fun.
I've really wanted to read Joel Rosenberg's books, but haven't had a chance yet. I'll have to do it... once I finish my degree or something. 
Candace, I'm glad the lecture is helping! My professor was amazing and wrote amazing lectures. Hey, have you taken Western Europe yet? I scheduled it for Monday and will take any advice you have.

Love the Narnia series! Also other C.S Lewis classics are from his space trilogy, you don't think of him with sci-fi but very enjoyable nonetheless. Of course I think if they had an exclusive Harry Potter/Lord of the Rings Dante's exam I'd be in awesome shape
