The marketing dept liked what I had to say during my Tell Your Story video at commencement this past September. They invited me to do a longer spot today they are planning on using when they become an official University. The state approvals for University status are done and the final step should be done in January. Since I want everyone to know a college degree is doable and figured it might be some good marketing for me personally, I was happy to do it. My daughter is super excited...she thinks I'm going to be on TV (I'm not, marketing told me they looked into tv ads and they were just too cost prohibitive). I'm excited too, I've never done anything like this before.
Figuring they wanted to appeal to my demographic, I brought my "College" notebook...which is the notebook I used write down my test attack plan that was revised over and over. It also has the picture my daughter drew of me graduating when I first asked her if she thought I should go back to school taped to the inside of the front cover. They loved my daughter's drawing and took pics of it and my test plan. What was funny was my plan still had 2016 on top as the end date because the original test and class plan would have finished in Jan 2016.
I explained to them how I found Instantcert forums from the Free Clep Prep site and how they both enabled me to whittle it down to a June 2015 completion. When we really got to talking I told them the sites actually changed my whole way of approaching online college: what I thought would be 2-3years of classes for $15000-$17000 became 7 months for $8,000 (comprehensive tuition plan plus CLEP, DSST, Sophia, Penn Foster and books). I think some of that might make it into the final cut because they were recording during it.
And they took some nice stills they are going to send to me...yay! free professional head shot for my LinkedIn. AND I was given a swag bag from Alumni Affairs.
Cant' wait to see the video...hope I didn't nerd it up too much.
