Final Stages TESU BALS
#1
This is a little different since I'm towards the end but I wanted to make sure I'm doing this as easily and cost effectively as I can moving forward. I've also already gone over the amount of credits I needed due to the Sophia free month and getting some certificates I hadn't planned on when I started this journey. I have not begun taking courses at TESU yet other than a TECEP so, if it's easier to get a degree from another school I'm fine with it. Basically I just want a bachelor's degree but what it's in doesn't really matter. I plan on going into IT so I'll be more worried about getting my IT certifications. Could do without taking another college math course if possible, have mercy on my soul. The current degree plan is outdated and has some things planned in that I probably won't be taking anymore because it no longer makes sense but I'll attach it. I'm also waiting on finishing the Google Project Management cert before sending TESU another transcript, credits not sent in are marked.

I would not trust that they will accept the Shmoop courses, even if they've been planned and they said they would take them. TESU hasn't accepted Shmoop for a long time and I'm unaware of any way to even prove that you took those courses now - if you haven't already transferred them to TESU.

But it looks like you're mostly done. Depending on how everything transfers in, and your budget, you might want to consider doing a 13 or 15 credit term to avoid the residency waiver. Otherwise, switching to another degree or to another school at this point would be silly. You'd have to put in yet more work.

Since it doesn't cost anything to send in a Credly transcript, I'd do that ASAP to see exactly where you stand with TESU.

The TECEP exam won't count toward residency.

If you have taken a TECEP within the last year, then you are an active student and there is no reason to wait to send in transcripts. - especially if you don't already have those Shmoop showing on your official evaluation. If they had been placed there during the time they still accepted them, then they should be fine since they're already showing on the official evaluation.  Could you post your official evaluation (minus your personal details)?  I see it now, but is that for the BALS w/Communications concentration as you indicated in your signature (or no concentration)?

Oh, I'll send it. I thought there was a limit even if you were a student so I was waiting since I just sent them one in January. That is just no concentration BALS, the sig much like the degree plan is dated. At one point I was thinking about doing a dual BALS and then one in communications but just the BALS is fine. I ended up taking a new job where they worked me to death so I went an entire year without doing any courses. That's why the Schmoop were still planned in, I had started right before they stopped taking them. But once I send in my new transcript I'll get them to update everything.

The Shmoop courses actually transferred over to my Credly account with ACE badges, I didn't have to ask for them or anything. They were just there when I started my account but TESU has had them since whenever they stopped taking them. I wouldn't lose any sleep if they decided not to take them because I may not use them anyway depending on how everything goes. It looks like just avoiding the residency waiver, making sure my RAs and ULs done is all that's left. Plus that final term  Big Grin

Yeah, I suggest getting the 16 residency credits, hitting the 30+RA and finishing with ACE/NCCRS Upper Level courses. You're almost there, changing schools to say UMPI won't be worth it as it seems your commitments/time isn't really steady. I also noticed you have the cornerstone waiver, so you can try getting yourself 10-12 credits the first term and the capstone + another course the second term to finish off the degree (or two).

The TECEP exam won't count toward residency.

You're right, I missed that it's a TECEP. That would mean a 16-credit term, then.

Just do whatever is easiest/most interesting. It doesn't have to fit in the degree plan, necessarily. One only needs to have taken any 16 credits from TESU in the form of regular courses or ePacks.

You have 26cr of RA counting the Harvard Extension course, so you're fine there.

Yes, at TESU the CSM course will work for your math requirement.

The Shmoop credit (which I'm 99.9% sure they will not take) won't matter much, because your AoS is already filled with everything you can fit, as is all of the GE and just a few credits left of Free Electives, which will get filled with the Coursera courses and/or Sophia's Communication at Work and Preparing for the Future of Work (guessing that's BUE-101 based on description, it's Personal Finance).

So really, you just have American Government (CLEP or ICC) and then 2 UL courses.

The cheapest/easiest way to get credits is Study.com - since you've taken a bunch of Comm courses, I'd probably go with
BUS 313: Organizational Communication (COM-391)
and then either
BUS 305: Leadership Communication (MAN-376)
BUS 324: Managerial Communication (MAN-373)

I personally would probably pay the money for the Res Waiver since you're so close and have been at this for a long time. Probably to make sure they don't change their mind on anything! But honestly, with how many credits you already have, and the fact that you're are SO darn close to finishing - I can't even imagine taking MORE courses at TESU to avoid the RW. It's worth $3000 to be done!

If you do decide to do a 16cr term at TESU, then you should stop getting any other credits, and do:
3cr - Capstone
3cr - American Govt or Comparative Politics
3cr - The Story of Human Language (COM-399)
3cr - another UL COM course
3cr - something really easy like ART-100 or Public Speaking if you don't finish the Sophia course
1cr - PLA-100

That will make the most of what you still need to do, without spending any more money on outside courses.
