First Year Free? Northern Studies - one year programme (online)
#1
Here's a program for students who are into the environment or nature, it's in Northern Studies, entirely online from UiT of Norway.  Education or tuition should be free, but there are nominal semester fees.  This equates to the first year of a Bachelors and can be laddered up to their Bachelors of Northern Studies program if you ever wanted to go further in that field.  The language of instruction is in English.

The university seems legit. I think I'll take their course. Not sure how much they'll charge for semester fees...

Can one enroll while enrolled at one of the big 3 at same time?

Since this is for a "certificate" and not an actual degree (although one can put the credits towards a degree), there should be no issues with simultaneously being enrolled here and at one of the big 3. The issue arises when you are enrolled in 2 degree-seeking institutions simultaneously.

This is a HUGE time commitment. The site says they expect a total of 40 hours a week from students - including lectures, study time assignments etc. This is no trivial thing. Time-wise, it's almost like packing up and going to Norway for a year.

I live in the Great White North, eh? (Canada) and I'd like to do this - but even I (retired) can't muster 40 hours a week. Too bad, because as far as managing in the North and conserving its resources is concerned, I think Norway is at least 200 years ahead of us.

Sorry, I'm out. (Reluctantly)
