When you work through the regular lessons, you "learn" topics. When you get them right on a Knowledge Check, you "master" them. 70% mastered is necessary. I just discovered today that in the circle at the center of the pie chart where it tells you how many concepts you've learned...if you CLICK on that, it switches over to a percentage.

You can also potentially "lose" topics you'd previously mastered, if you get them as repeats on a Knowledge Check and miss them. (Then you have to go back and "relearn" them.)

I don't know if this will help but this is what I found out. I see an increase in 1% roughly every 4-5 topics and every 20 topics you get a knowledge check which raises your percentage by 5%. Keep monitoring your progress, if you are like at 67% and your did 15 topics (~3-4%) you can trigger a knowledge check from the master account and you will be tested on stuff you recently did and very few topics you already mastered. Sometimes when at 1% or so for a knowledge check I noticed you also get some topics your haven't done yet provided it was a triggered knowledge check. After you pass this even if you only completed 1% additional since your last assessment (eg 54 + 1%), you can gain a couple of percentage points more, provided you answer the topics your haven't covered yet. My advice monitor your progress and every 1% trigger a new knowledge check, if you are good you can get more than only the 1% progress without having to do all the grunt work. Though if your aim is to learn math then just work your way through the pie. Work on getting 100% on each section before moving on to the next, because each slice relies on topics from the previous slices most times.

No, it's not what you get on the pie chart, it's only what you get on a knowledge check that counts.  So you'd probably have to work through more than 70% of the pie to score at least 70% on a knowledge check.

I keep coming across different information on this topic throughout the forum, but it sounds like the percentage of the pie chart does matter. I requested transfer credit through ACE with 63% to see what they would say about it and they sent me an email stating:

Quote:We received the below request from ACE to approve your College Algebra course.  At this time you have not completed your ALEKS course with a knowledge check of 70% or higher.  In order to approve ACE credit, you must complete a knowledge check with 70% or higher.  Your last knowledge check was completed with 63% and even if you had any additional % in the learning mode, this does not count toward completion of your course.

Please continue working in ALEKS until you have achieved the objective of completing a knowledge check with 70% or higher, then re-apply at ACE for the course credit.

If you need additional assistance, please let me know.

The 63% that they mentioned was the percentage of what I had completed of the pie chart at the time. I think that they should make this more clear on their site, instead of saying that you need at least a 70% or higher on the knowledge checks to receive credit, they should say that you should have more than 70% of the pie chart completed and score at least a 70% on a knowledge check in order to obtain credit.

The 63% that they mentioned was the percentage of what I had completed of the pie chart at the time. To clarify, you ONLY need a 70% or higher on your most recent knowledge check to obtain credit. It doesn't matter how much of the pie you have completed. In their response, ALEKS basically says the same thing... but adds that even if you have 70% on the pie chart you still need at least 70% on the knowledge check to obtain credit.

FYI, I received credit for both Statistics and Trigonometry by getting a 70% or greater on my initial knowledge check for each, which means I had 0% in the pie. (I used Khan Academy videos for the majority of my study and review, rather than the ALEKS service.)

Here's where I think the confusion is coming from: when you work through the lessons, you "learn" concepts. When you get them right on a Knowledge Check, you "master" them. You really do only need 70%, but you need 70% mastered, not just 70% learned.

I think how high a percentage you can gain during a knowledge check probably depends on the course. If there are more topics, total, then 20 new topics is a lower percentage of the overall course. But according to my report, I gained 16%, 17%, 16%, 11%, and 2% (because I forced a KC to get the last little bit I needed) on my Knowledge Checks, so you definitely don't max out at 2%.

That circle in the center of the pie that shows how many topics you've learned...if you click on it, it will switch over to a percentage. (It took me 2 months to figure that out.) I just finished Intro to Stats this week with 71% and it's been approved, so that information is current.

Okay now that makes sense, so I've mastered 23% , 14%, 19%, 8% and 16% from the knowledge checks (Total of 80%) with 68% of the course work completed. Would this be enough to finish?

Go in your report When your pie % reaches from 68% to 70% then request ACE credit....

@a2jc4life and @ISKBizz15

To request credit 70% of the topics needs to be completed and mastered. When 70% of the pie is mastered you can request credit.

For example for trigonometry there is 426 topics. When I reached 297 topics of the 426 topics mastered then my pie detail read 70% and I requested credit. Did the same for beginning and intermediate algebra.

If you get 70% in the initial check when you now start the course then it means you have mastery of 70% of the topics, do not let that confuse you. If you do not get 70% in the initial check then your aim is jut to have mastery of 70% of the topics. Forget the knowledge checks, just aim at mastering 70% of the topics.

For example if you are at 69% and you learn 10 topics then that's 69%+2%, if you trigger a knowledge check then even if you only master 1% of the topics learned (ie 50% on the knowledge check) and your mastered topics goes to 69%+1% = 70% you can request credit. It dosen't matter how much you get on a knowledge check after the initial assessment. All that matters is you gain mastery of 70% of the topics.

Forget the knowledge checks, it is only initially that matters. Aim to complete 70% of the topics.

See attached.

When I was at 64% I did 26 topics to go up to +6%. Remember when the pie is 426 total ~5 is 1% of the topics.

I was then at 69%. After I completed 6 topics I triggered a knowledge check and after that it meant I had mastered 70% of the topics. I then requested ACE credit.
