Does anyone know if Sophia accepts student loans, or is considered a learning institution by the IRS?

Sophia is NOT an institution that you can get a student loan for. If you qualify for financial aid, what you can do is use it at TESU/COSC/whatever and then use any overage to pay for Sophia.

Also, try the promo code Sophia2020 to see if you can get a few months free. It may or may not still work.

I wasn't looking so much for the financial aid as I was getting the education tax credit from the IRS. I'm guessing that since the IRS doesn't offer the credit to correspondence schools, I'm guessing Sophia will fall into something similar.

No, since it isn't an accredited title IV college they will not issue you the 1098-T form that you need to file with the IRS in order to qualify for the education tax credit on qualified tuition and related expenses (including amounts paid for books, supplies, and equipment needed for a course of study).

However any tuition paid, or money spent on books, etc. for to attend WGU, TESU, COSC, or EC will count toward education tax credits, etc.

THANK YOU all for the coupon code. They are still omitting 5 courses from my transcript but at least this will get me some more transferable credit.

If you are self-employed or a 1099 contractor, you can write off Sophia as education if it is relevant to your profession.
