CompTIA CySA+ (CS1-003) Cybersecurity Beta Exam
#1
CompTIA is currently running a promo on the upcoming CySA+ cert. If you enroll for the beta exam the cost is $50 USD. Last date to sit the exam is 6th Jan, 2023.  It's a new exam, so not many resources available. Seems quite interesting. I'm going to chance it and see if I can learn what this is and pass by Jan. This one seems like it's difficult even if you are in IT security, if anyone was wondering, very good prep to ladder upwards.

Registration Began Oct 5! Info Link: https://www.comptia.org/certifications/c...ty-analyst

I was looking at this, but I have so much going on right now. I'm still TAing at GT, I am studying for a different cert exam (that I'm not even sure I'll sit for because I haven't dedicated enough time to studying for it), I have my normal day job, and I am wrapping up another bachelors. But it is very tempting at that price!

It's not an entirely new exam, but a new version of of their existing CySA+ exam. So older study material will still have a lot of relevant training on there, but definitely compare the old exam objectives to the new ones to see where the overlap is so you know what parts of old training are still valid, see what's been sunset, and of course see what has been added so you can find alternative ways to brush up on the new objectives.

Beta tests are great, that's how I got Pentest+ and some others. I took the current version earlier this year and I concur with JSD, use study materials from the previous exam and then reference the exam objectives as well. With CySA+, you'll want to get some practice looking through logs and interacting with the terminal. Even though I already passed the current version I'm actually thinking of taking this beta as some extra practice for a harder cert.

It looks like PenTest study materials will cover most of what won't be in old CySA study materials. The new exam takes some of its objectives from PenTest.

For anyone looking for resources, I liked Mike Chapples CySA+ course on LinkedIn learning (which is free through many libraries). Also, here's a free YouTube course playlist made by Certify Breakfast:

Awesome, they're broken down into smaller chunks too instead of just cramming them into a few videos!

Here's another resource I found from Metropolia. Their cybersecurity defense professional course(worth 8ECTS), actually uses a TestOut! course that's Designed to help students prepare for CySA+ certification (obviously the older version). Looks like it costs around 50€(around $50) so it would be perfect for those students who are going for cheap RA credits with Metropolia anyway.

I haven't personally done this TestOut! course before but I've done others and used them for my students and really like the hands on labs that it includes. Buying the course on your own would be a few hundred whereas getting it this way is pretty big savings.

I'm sitting for this exam at the end of December and currently using Jason Dion's CS0-002 course on Udemy to study up. I have access to the official CompTIA Train-the-Trainer course for that previous version as well, so that'll come into play. Starting the BSCSIA program at WGU in February, so if I end up passing, I'll be able to submit that score and get credit for C842 Cyber Defense and Countermeasures. Hopefully results will be released before the end of that first term, but we'll see.
