Getting around the 50% requirement for non-degree seeking students?(undergrad certs)
#1
Question
I was logging in to my old TESU account because I'm about to request transcripts, when I remembered that they have several undergrad certs that can be be accomplished through alternative credits. For non degree seeking students, they require 50% of the required classes to be taken at TESU. Can I reapply and enroll in a TECEP and then transfer in my credits to get an undergrad cert or would I actually have to complete a degree at TESU for that to work?(Which I don't intend to do.)

Do you have some actual TESU credits? If you transfer everything in you will pay a $1200 residency waiver and $100 per certificate if you aren’t seeking a degree.

Yes I have 4 credits from TESU. Wow, $1200 isn't worth it. I knew it would be a long shot but thanks for the head's up! I may do a TECEP anyway so I can bank some credits there....

You just happen to need 12 residency credits to get your degree from TESU.  If those are the remaining credits for your degree at TESU, then you get to skip the residency waiver.
379x12 = 4548, a term at WGU is 3370 - it maybe cheaper, however, you don't know if you can get all the credits done in 1 term...  decisions, decisions...
Have you thought about the Bachelors to Masters option? Use the 12 residency for grad credits instead or to get a grad cert?

Makes sense. I'm going to be transferring in around the max (90 credits) to WGU and I've been getting my certs covered by work, and an absurd amount of free/cheap courses ever since covid started so I'm not worried about accelerating through my last 30 credits in one term when I start around dec-jan.

My career/educational path pivoted since I originally attended TESU from engineering technology to IT/Cyber so I think WGU will be the overall better choice for me there.

I have other ideas for my masters and they don't involve TESU. I was just thinking it would be cool to get a few cheap certificates out of TESU but it's not worth the residency requirements or the waiver fee.

Your input is always appreciated BJ!
