Getting started on my ED plan for TESC BSBA CIS
#1
Just getting started on my ed plan. I will be done with my AAIT from UOP in 5 weeks and my plan is to switch to TESC to earn my BSBA-CIS. The list below is the credits I have earned so far. Also here is a link to my degree forum wiki: JohnWilliamsonTESC BSBA CIS - Degree Forum Wiki

I would appreciate any advice forum members have for me as I build my ED plan. I plan to test out of as many units as possible. I have read through the forums and I think I am getting a grasp of what I need to do (my head is spinning). My first step is to compare my existing credits to the TESC requirements and build a list of classes I still need to complete. The next step is to build a list of CLEP / DSST exams that will fulfill these requirements. The final step will be to list the actual classes I will need to complete at TESC to finish my degree.

CLEP / DSST / Etc.

Complete (included in UOP transcript):

This should help you fill in the business core and some of the general education requirements.
Sanantone's BSBA General Management - Degree Forum Wiki

Penn Foster has an ACE approved course called Intro to Programming to fulfill the programming requirement. Javaonline.org offers NCCRS approved courses in java programming. You might have to find Systems Analysis and Design at a community college if you don't want to take it at TESC.

Thanks Sanantone,

I have your plan bookmarked! I have one thing I am having a hard time deciphering. When I go through the degree requirements how do I know what requirements are upper or lower division? Is this in the degree planning handbook or prospectus and I am missing it?

I will post updated links to my plan in the wiki as I make more progress.

For the BSBAs, there aren't any UL and LL requirements listed on their webpages. I can't remember what it said on my degree evaluation. Five of the courses in the business core are going to automatically be UL. Even if you take a CLEP/DSST or a course that's labeled as LL at another school, some courses will always be counted as UL at TESC. For example, you can take Principles of Management at a community college, which will obviously be lower level since CCs do not offer UL courses. But when you transfer it to TESC, they will give you UL credit because TESC always counts Principles of Management as UL.

For the CIS area of study, I don't know TESC's rules are for 100-level and 200-level credits. System Analysis and Design should automatically be UL.

So I have "completed" my ED plan. So far a little over $8k (to TESC) if I can pull this off in one year, a little over $11K if I go into year two (Excluding the cost of exams). Naturally I will need to adjust this plan once I get my transfer credits evaluated. I am looking for feedback in terms of this plan being financially sound and my timeline being do-able (with some hard work of course).

I know you have a lot of credits that need to be evaluated so that you can know where you stand, but it would probably be best to take the tests you know you need to take before enrolling. After you apply, you have 6 months to enroll or they will make you apply and send transcripts again. Your enrollment fee is good for 1 year. So, basically, you have 18 months to finish. If you don't think you can finish in 18 months, then start knocking out the tests you have listed before you apply.
