Graduate School Prerequisites
#1
Speaking generally, how do graduate schools view credits from ACE for graduate admissions prerequisites?

Specifically, I want to get into a certain subset of quantitative academic fields (still deciding which) that tend to require maths at a higher level than I currently have credit for.

To level my maths, I can go through some online programs that will take 1-2 years and cost a great deal of money that I would like to save for graduate school, or I can self-study and do courses at a lower price from ACE providers.

I'm kind of between a rock and a hard place, so any information or experience with this is much appreciated.

It will depend on the school. Some are very accepting of ACE credits for prerequisites while others don't look upon them so favorably. If you have a particular school or schools in mind, sharing will help in figuring out how accepted ACE will be for you.

Many grad schools will specify that you need a minimum grade for those courses, usually a C.

If they don't specify, then I think they're more likely to accept ungraded credit, especially if it's on a school transcript.

But often it will be up to those running the program. Even if they specify a grade minimum, you could ask. I would ask at the school(s) you're interested in before you start.

Some advanced math can be found at community colleges, in-state schools, or cheap online schools.

People who are used to dealing with undergrad admissions, often don't realize how much more responsive grad school admissions departments are. Because different programs will vary so widely in how they look at your prereqs, I would strongly suggest you call one or two schools you would be interested in attending and ask them very specifically about your plans.
