I used to use ProWritingAid but it's not really geared for essay writing. Grammarly's interface is less cluttered and very intuitive imho. Unless they've changed something in the last year or so, ProWriting was not as accurate as Grammarly especially at handling context. Plus I can use Grammarly on my iPhone and iPad and again, unless they've changed recently, that is not an option with ProWriting. 

Both are good programs but execute in different ways. I would pay $200 for a lifetime Grammarly sub if it was made available but I don't see that happening any time soon.
I did get Grammarly when they had a lifetime deal. They "lost" my information for it and my reciept and that doens't exist anymore. They only offered it for a few days. At least I got a good 8ish years out of it

For anyone interested, the above offer works, as of today, even if you already have a paid Grammarly account. I clicked on the upgrade offer while logged in to my Grammarly account, and it automatically extended my subscription for another year, starting when my current year expires in January, at the $66.23 price.
