Heads up: Residency Waiver Fees MAY go up July 1st

If you only have 5 classes left, it might be worth paying it now. It's not like you have most of your credits still to complete.

I called the Office of Student Accounts this afternoon and asked the lady if she knew how much the residency waver fee was going to go up. If she is correct, she said it would be $3192, starting July 1st. So that's a $392 increase. Ugh! The Study.com discount for tuition at $379/credit will stay the same. I only have like five classes left, including capstone, so I may think about paying it before July 1st and get done within a year. What do you guys think?

I personally don't like to take chances, I guess it depends on whether life will get in the way or not, especially if you're going slow.  If you had 5 classes and the capstone left and you said you'd get the 5 done in the next couple of months and then do the capstone in September, I'd probably do it.  If you're thinking of taking a course every month or two, and then the capstone next June, I'd just wait to pay the RW.  There's no sense paying $2800 now to save $392, only to miss the deadline and have paid $2800 and ALSO $3192.

I'm taking another look at TESU costs. Correct me if I'm wrong but it actually looks like it's a bit cheaper to forget about the SDC discount & just go with the flat-rate tuition - taking at least 16 credits @ TESU to avoid residency waiver fee.

SDC Partnership Discount/ TESU Per Credit Tuition (6 credits @ TESU): $50 application fee + $2,800 residency waiver + $298 graduation fee + $2,274 (cost for 2 courses) = $5,422

No SDC Partnership Discount/ TESU Flat Rate Tuition: (16 credits @ TESU): $50 application fee + $4,928 flat rate tuition + $298 graduation fee = $5,276.

Maybe I just realized most people oppose the flat-rate tuition because you need to take so many courses in about 3 months.

and that flat rate will be a better deal once the study.com discount is gone and the waiver fee increases.

But for sure 16 credits in 3 months is a lot. Especially if one of them is the capstone. And most people on this forum have partner/kids/job or even all three, so that takes up more time as well.

16 credits at once is a lot of work. I'm taking 4 ASU EA classes (so some of the easiest classes possible) at once right now. 12 credits. I can't imagine throwing two more full classes into the mix, especially if they were more difficult.

Yeah, definitely depends on the school and how many other obligations you have. With few other obligations (no full-time job and no kids), I don't think 16 credits is hard for some people, however, if you're talking about 16 credits which include the Capstone, that's harder.

(Plus it seems that TESU won't let you start the Capstone if 12 of your credits are AOS.)

Also I am unsure if it's easy to take exactly 16 credits. Can everyone enroll in that 1 credit course? I know some people do it, but if you are not doing the flexible BALS, can you still take that Literature credit?

Yeah, I feel that's a big increase especially because it seems like they increased last year and the year before. I think that their hope is to make it a no-brainer to take classes at TESU.

I think I'd pay now if I felt certain I could entirely graduate in 9 months. Then I would try to finish courses faster, as if I were graduating in 6 months, so that if some unexpected thing came up in my life, I could push the date back twice and still graduate in 12 months. Over the course of a year, I would expect more than one "unexpected" thing to come up, but not necessarily big enough things that it forces me to push back the date.

I agree, not enough of a difference in cost. A 16 credit workload means not much of a life outside is school.
