Help with my TESC Evaluation
#1
Hi everyone!
Thanks so much for all of your help on this forum. I recently applied to TESC and I just got my Evaluation. I would really appreciate your help as I had a few questions about my evaluation and then I'll post my Eval. down below.

1. Under Humanities Electives in the General Ed. it says I need a minimum of 2 departments. I took English Lit, American Lit, and Analyzing and Interp. Lit. Do I need to take a different humanities test under a different department? What test would that be? Or can I petition to have my other literature tests moved to the Humanities electives?

2. Under Natural Science/Math electives in the General Ed. it says "Complete 3 semester hours from Natural Sciences Department;> except the mathematics department." Does that mean I can't use my ALEKS Math classes to fill those three credits? Why would it say Math if they don't let you fill it with a math class?

3. I took Financial Accounting I and II as well as Managerial Accounting on Straighterline. Where is Financial Accounting II? It isn't even on my unofficial transcript? Would I contact TESC, ACE or Straighterline? Managerial Accounting did transfer in as Cost Accounting in Business electives.

If my questions don't make sense just let me know and I'll try to clarify them! Thank you so much!
I'll post my Evaluation in just a minute.

I'll post my Evaluation in just a minute.

Okay, I can only help you with 1 of your questions. Hopefully, someone will be able to answer your other two.

1. As far as the humanities section, you need to take a test that isn't literature in order to fulfill the 2 department requirement. As far as I know, you could take Humanities CLEP, any of the foreign language CLEP, Art of the Western World DSST, Principles of Public Speaking DSST, Technical Writing DSST, Ethics in America DSST, or Introduction to World Religions DSST. You can view what tests fall under which categories for CLEP and DSST at TESC from these links....

CLEP - College-Level Exam Program
DANTES

I'm pretty sure you won't be able to petition to have your literature test put under humanities because you must have 2 different departments such as Literature and Art or Literature and English.

Hope that helps.

You will need to take something in a department outside of LIT to fit in that opening, petitions are good to help reclassify what transfer credit you get for a course but won't help bypass the two department policy.

You must take a Natural Sciences course for this requirement and your other math courses won't fit. The reason it says Nat Sci/Math is because they are clumped together at TESC as the third area of General Education (outside of Humanities and Social Sciences). Your extra math courses are in the correct place by filling in your general education electives and spilling over into free electives.

TESC sometimes misses courses during the eval, you'll want to check your ACE transcript and if the course was on there when sent to TESC then you'll ask TESC to fix the evaluation. On one of my courses they just made a mistake and skipped it and it didn't appear on my eval or unofficial transcript until I had them fix it. If it isn't on ACE then you'll have to resubmit it.

If my questions don't make sense just let me know and I'll try to clarify them! Thank you so much!
I'll post my Evaluation in just a minute.
My completed "non-traditional" credits include 27 credits from CLEP, 30 credits from DSST, 6 credits from ALEKS, 19 credits from FEMA courses including PDS, 3 credits from NFA courses, 10 credits from ACE Workplace Training, 3 credits from a TESC TECEP exam, and 3 credits from a TESC PLA course.

I think they are saying you do not have enough diversity among your general education and therefore to complete humanities you must take a class that is not literature and to complete natural sciences you must take a class that is not math. I would initially contact TESC about your Financial Accounting II not being on your evaluation as it may have simply been overlooked.

Sorry Alex - we must have been replying at the same time Smile

If you want fix your TESC evaluation before enrolling, you have 30 day time window to do so. The procedure is found here: Procedures and Appeal Guidelines for Transfer Credit Evaluations

Relax, I had several issues, one of which was a missed CBE, all amiciably resolved with even an apology from TESC!
