High cost to graduate from one of the Big Three...

If a person earns all of their credits elsewhere, then transfers them to one of the Big Three, they will ending up paying a LOT of money for what amounts to checking your credits and issuing a degree. I wonder why there is not a competitor that will do the same thing for several hundred dollars? Any idea why not?

Because it takes stringent requirements and a lot of money for a school to be properly accredited. I personally think it's worth the price for the amount of flexibility.

There are competitors, they are just called "diploma mills." A guy I know got his "MBA" for $800 and "life experience" from just such a place, but DOES NOT have the knowledge to back it up. Def. not worth the money savings in my opinion...

This is somewhat relative, too. You might think the Big 3 have high fees for their services, but that can be piddly squat compared to many large 4 year B&Ms. I think many here would rather shell out $2300 to TESC or COSC than pay $10000 or more to large universities-- and often those large B&M fees will hit your wallet before you even crack open one book.

The Big 3 are still among the best deals to be had in distance education.

people pay more than this for stupid, vain, trivial things like RIMS on their car.

1600 to solidify your educationial accomplishments into a degree is well worth it.

Think about it this way. You go to a job interview, asked if you have a degree, you reply "NO but I have 120 credits"
The next guy replies "Yes I have a Bachelors in ____ from TESC."

if everything else is close, you just lost the job.
Not to mention the jobs you cannot even apply to untill you have a degree.

And that's why I'm here today! Found this out the hard way. Most companies now scan your resume before they read it. If you don't meet the minimum requirements it does not matter if you discovered a cure for cancer and invented an engine that get 1,000 MPG and does not pollute the environment. Your not getting in the door for any interviews.
