Any Texas residents using this method for pre-req's at a Texas University?

Curious to know of any Texas residents using the test out method toward a your current degree or future degree program at a university in Texas. If so, should these credits taken be applied to one of the Big 3 so that a soul source trasncript of credits can be received by a univeristy in Texas?

For most folks on this forum, the goal is to end up getting the degree from one of the Big 3. As far as I know, these 3 schools are the only ones that are RA and have such a generous credit transfer, zero residency, and allow almost an entire degree through testing out. If your goal is to end up at a university in Texas I would check with them about their exam policy with Clep and Dsst and take exams and stick with that university through the whole process. It would not make sense for you to enroll at one of the Big 3 and have them transcribe your exams and then transfer somewhere else. (Unless I am misunderstanding what you mean)

What creative said. Most schools limit the amount of alternative credit (including CLEP and DANTES) you can have, so your best option would probably be to enroll at a Texas university that accepts CLEP and DANTES and then take the appropriate tests to earn credits. Another alternative would be to earn a big 3 bachelor's and then enroll in a local master's program. Just check with the graduate program to confirm the degree would be acceptable.
I m edumakated thanx to distunce lerning.

My first post on this board. (edited to add - apparently, it's my second post on this board!)

I'm going to university here in Texas (DBU). I don't know too much about the Big 3 - I came to this board because I wanted to learn more about taking CLEP exams. DBU will allow me to take 30 credit hours of CLEP exams, so I've been focusing on the ones that are a requirement for my major (management, marketing, macroeconomics, microeconomics, computer science). DBU has a "portfolio" program for mature age students where you can petition for an additional 30 credit hours for knowledge gained through work experience.

My recommendation would be to talk to the college where you are thinking of applying, and seeing what their policy is. Good luck!

No, you have it backward.

The school AWARDING the degree holds the policy. So, the fact that you would take some CLEPs, classes, etc elsewhere isn't relevant. *there is an exception in the case of using a community college, but I won't muddy the waters.

Also, you'll never have a sole source transcript. In every college, the transcript is only a documentation of what THEY are awarding you, so if you transfer, the new college makes it's own transcript for you based on the ORIGINAL credits. Meaning, if you take a CLEP, you'll have a transcript from The College Board. The fact that any college puts that CLEP credit on your transcript doesn't change where it came from. It's still CLEP and when every you apply somewhere or transfer, you'll need to obtain an official CLEP transcript.

This isn't nearly as difficult as it sounds, it's just getting a grasp on how credit is recorded/issued. As mentioned, pick where you want to earn your degree from, and use THAT college's policy. Anything and everything that happens before the awarding of an actual degree is subject to evaluation by the school granting your degree.

P.S. I just looked it up, and University of Texas accepts CLEP. Simply CLEP at the college and the scores go directly to the college. If you are a high school student, you can send scores later. Also, it appears as if they have specific exams that they take depending on the campus you attend, so it's worth shooting off an email to the college and finding out which exams are accepted toward your preferred degree on your preferred campus. Good luck!
