In a fender bender :[
#1
I rear ended a car on the freeway today at low speed (7mph) which caused my hood to bend, and caused some damage cosmetically to his bumper. I was heading from one work site to another. I stood on my brakes and I rolled into the car anyway.

I've never been at fault for an accident before and I am having a hard time with it. No injuries, no issues, no police. But my wife and I are struggling as is financially, and now we are going to be out even more.

What a bummer.

Sorry to hear that. What is your insurance deductible? Does your car really need to be fixed to be operational? Years ago, a car hit me, and I couldn't afford the deductible, so I just took the check and deposited it to make up for the loss of value in the car.

People always wonder why I drive old people's cars, but those things are virtually indestructible. I've been in accidents that caused major damage to the other vehicles, but my cars only had minor cosmetic defects. Of course, I was still quoted at $2,000+ for repairs.

The damage can be "ignored" more or less. The hood dented in an inch or two but everything is still functional. I got in it and drove it to the job site and I am there right now typing this.

More than anything I think I am disappointed in myself. I feel like I should have been able to avoid it, but it happened anyway.

No sense beating yourself up. It happens to most people at some point. If you were distracted, try to eliminate that form of distraction in the future... Then cut yourself some slack.
