So Kaplan Open College has a bunch of new courses listed,

Does anybody know if these give college credit or how they work in general (besides for self improvement of course)

Thanks

Of course it might change, but at the moment, the only course they have listed through ACE is the PLA one, for 3 lower-level general ed credits.
ACE CREDIT | The National Guide to College Credit for Workforce Training
BA, MA, EdS, MMT, etc.
83 hours of ACE-worthy credits

Does anyone know how much it will cost to get credit for the other non-ACE recommended courses? It sounds like you pay an assessment fee of $100 or so to get it evaluated for credits by Kaplan University... is that right? How does it work?

I'm confused about your question. There are ACE evaluated courses (which you can't pay to have evaluated, ACE decides that after the institution/business enters into a relationship with ACE) and then Kaplan the school can award credit within their school. As for how much they'd charge, I'm not sure.

Oh, I was referring to the list of courses they offer here >> https://opencollege.kaplan.com/opencollege/

Only one of those courses have been evaluated by ACE, however, it sounds like it's possible to get Kaplan college credits for the other courses. At least that's what it sounds like from the English Composition I course.

It does sound like that from the info, I think it was $100 for assessment of work to get credits, but there is no real explanation of how it works.

Ohhhhhh okay. Humm, well if you wouldn't mind, I'd love for you to share what you find if you get an answer back from Kaplan. That might be useful to lots of folks here. Smile

Yup, I've tried contacting them... but for some reason my communication is one-way. :/ Either they're not receiving my messages, or I'm not receiving theirs. The only time I've had a two-way communication was by chatting with technical support, even then, I couldn't get all the answers I was looking for....If it's really $100 per assessment, I think it'd be quite a good alternative to consider. All these courses seem to be designed as feeders tp lock you into Kaplan college. The psych course seems like a marketing tool disguised in a Psych 101 course.

Far fetched, perhaps, but I wouldn't put it passed these For Profits, just like how they are now all offering discounts disguised as "scholarships". Maybe the local furniture store will offer me a "scholarship" on the new sofa I want to buy.

Don't waste time by trying to save time. The only sure way to complete your degree is to knock out credits quickly and efficiently.

Don't let easiness bite you in the rear. Know your endgame (where you want to be) and plan backward from there. Your education is a means to an end.

Be honest professionally, socially and academically. There are people (especially little ones) who look up to you and they're going by your example.

Be proud. Whether you're an Engineer or Fast Food worker, there is honor and dignity in hard work.

Picking on people weaker than you only proves that you are a weak person.

If it makes you feel better, non-profits and publics also "disguise" discounts as scholarships, since that's essentially what a scholarship is.
