TESC Math Credit Duplication Question
#1
Hi,

Can someone tell me if it is safe to take the College Math Clep if you already have College Algebra and Math for Liberal Arts Majors? The Clep is listed as MAT102/103, the College Algebra as MAT121, and the other as MAT105. I just want to sure that none of these duplicate.

Thanks!

My best guess is that the 100 is going to duplicate. BUT, you'll still get 3 new credits, because it won't duplicate algebra for sure.

Thanks for answering! I apologize that I'm not sure what you mean by the 100. Do you mean the first three credits for the CLEP? I think TESC classifies it as MAT102. Do you think that will duplicate the MAT105? Sorry I'm not totally getting it! I really appreciate your help!

In my Distribution College Algebra and Pre Calculus are 121/129 respectfully.

I expect my Intermediate Algebra to go in as 115

General Math from College Math Clep went in as Mat 102/103. If you know its Mat105 you may be able to throw it into General Elective credits. Remember these are all 100 courses, so they have to fit into the Mathematics/Natural Science Gen ED. or Math course functions. I think they will show up as different courses. But Edison holds the trump card there. I would say I am 90 percent sure.

Thanks! I was thinking the same thing. Hopefully, they will count them all as separate courses.

Sorry!! Yes, I'd bet that the MAT105 will duplicate 3 credits (not 6) of the CLEP College Math. Sometimes that same class is called MAT100, MAT101, MAT102, MAT103, MAT105...(called "math for liberal arts" or "math for general education" or "math for teachers" etc.) but it is essentially the same thing (at least according to transfer policy) and has a single digit in the 100 level. This is my very best guess, however, it is possible that they would give you all 6, I just wouldn't count on it. If you get 6, then consider it a nice surprise!!Smile

Edit- I want to add that if ANYONE would award non-duplicating credit for 105 and college math clep it would be TESC, so it's certainly worth a shot.
