Leaving Kaplan...Exploring Options
#21

There are low cost MBA options out there from reputable schools. Some folks have already mentioned LSUS on here. I'm also aware of University of Louisiana-Monroe, which the tuition was dirt cheap (comparably at least).

What made you sour on Kaplan? Is it the stigma?

STIGMA ..that pretty much sums it up. I am so afraid that potential employers will look at my "online degree and laugh". With my current employer, I had a bad experience during the interview explaining my pursuit of online education with Kaplan and other institutions. The interviewer appeared to frown upon my DE degree.
I suspect this to be an isolated event. But am unsure. This is the second full time, stable job I have ever had in my life (showing my age a bit). So perhaps I am a little naïve or inexperienced in this area.

Certain schools have a negative stigma. Every time I've mentioned my degrees the response has been, "where is that at?" I tell them TESU is in Trenton NJ but I took my classes remotely while working full time. So far I haven't had any negative responses, some have even commented that it shows good work ethic.

Perception is a tough thing to control, but I think any obscure school will work for your purpose if it's to avoid stigma.
Currently studying for: Still deciding.
