Liberal Arts Capstone
#11
Will do.

Can you finish early? You can go ahead and work on your paper...only thing is you are required to interact with everyone and post on a weekly(ish) basis and comment on other post. Now that I think of it, it kind of reminds me of what some of you do here. I plan to submit my paper before the due date though in order to make the June Grad deadline. Also they post the syllabus on the tesc site if you need a better breakdown. Will keep you guys posted.

Update: Done with module 3. Submitted my written assignment in the wrong format on mod 2 and was knocked down 25 points! I want to take back some Of what I said. This paper is proving a little more work than normal classes. I mean it is a capstone. You have to follow the modules to a T. You will also document how you research and why you did this that and so forth. Along with your 25 page paper you will turn in 5 chapters over basically writing a paper at the end. Those chapters are what the written assignments are. Our mentor calls it a paper about your paper. Boy can they get lengthy.

Riley,

Congrats on completing the capstone. I am enrolled in for May 1st, and was wondering if I need to buy any books for the course or is it e-Book?

TESC's site (LIB-495-OL) shows two books for the course, but opening up MBS direct (where they recommend you to buy the book) only lists the first one so you might want to wait until they have the May course added (only had March and April on there). Looks like they want $89.75 new or $71.85 used.

Looks like Amazon has it used and available for only a few dollars so I'd go that route when you are ready to buy:
Keys for Writers, 5th Edition: Ann Raimes: 9780618753864: Amazon.com: Books
My completed "non-traditional" credits include 27 credits from CLEP, 30 credits from DSST, 6 credits from ALEKS, 19 credits from FEMA courses including PDS, 3 credits from NFA courses, 10 credits from ACE Workplace Training, 3 credits from a TESC TECEP exam, and 3 credits from a TESC PLA course.

My most expensive book was for an accounting course and was over $200 since they used a new edition which also had an online access code (you couldn't get used). My advice to anyone is to always take the ISBN to amazon and look for used. That book for the capstone has used copies on Amazon for $4-$6 so you can get a real bargain if you skip that MBS direct site.

Riley2012 (or anyone else that has done the Capstone),

What kinds of topics did you and others pick for your 25 page paper?

There are a TON of options topic-wise for this course. Honestly, you can write about whatever interests you. Since I am a ballet dancer, I am writing about the history and influence of the Vaganova method of ballet (a specific style of classical ballet). Be thinking about your topic before the class begins, because you will have to post your topic shortly after the class starts. Furthermore, you will have to submit around three topics in case your professor disapproves your first choice. Additionally, you most develop three sub-questions that answer the main question of your paper. These sub-questions are what you will base your research on. Here are some other sample topics:

Research Projects:
Movie productions of the 1950s and their influence on current films
Reasons for gang membership and violent behavior
Effect of background noise on hearing-aid wearers

Creative Projects:
Violin teacher's curriculum for beginning violin students
Tourist guide to statues in New Orleans
Photo essay of murals on Philadelphia's buildings
Relationship between Dante's Inferno and the Bible

Applied Projects:
Problems with ground water in South Africa
Parent/Teacher guide to dealing with students suffering from obsessive behavior
CLEPs:
Biology: 64 | College Algebra: 60 | A&IL: 74 | Natural Sciences: 62 | College Comp: 62 | Intro Psychology: 73 | Intro Sociology: 67 | History of the U.S. I: 73 | History of the U.S. II: 65 | Principles of Marketing: 66 | Social Sciences & History: 68 | Humanities: 58

DSSTs:
Environment & Humanity: 59 | Technical Writing: 66 | Public Speaking: 67/Pass | Astronomy: 72

Other Courses:
Intro to Stats ALEKS: 70 | 24 FEMAs (including PDS) | Intro to News Reporting TECEP: Pass | Interpersonal Communication ECE: A | News Writing @ TESC: A | TESC Leadership Communication: A | TESC Mass Communication I: A | TESC Capstone: A | Marketing Communications TECEP: Pass | Argumentation & Debate @ LSU: A | Public Relations Thought & Practice TECEP: Pass

120/120 - DONE!!!
