Mom Hospitalized - Had to Suspend Plans Testing For Now...
#1
Hi All...

It's been a few weeks since I posted my full-force effort to quickly complete the DSST HTYH...Unfortunately, the weekend of Oct 24th, my very senior-aged mother began showing symptoms of what appeared to be a minor cold, which quickly turned into full-blown pneumonia - she's been hospitalized since Oct 30th...I caught the same horrendous germ, but managed to "stop" at acute bronchitis...Been trying to navigating much of Mom's care from my own "sick bed"...

Thankfully, Mom seems to be slowly turning the corner in a positive direction - still, her BP is sky high, and she's reacted extremely badly to the steroids they've been giving her for the pulmonary issues. When they do finally send her home, she's going to need a lot of care...

I'm hoping that SOMEHOW, SOMEWAY, I'll be able to resume my testing plans before the end of the year - if not, I'll have to reevaluate and go from there.

Thanks so much for all the support and help you've given me on my endless journey to complete my degree...Looks like the journey is going to take a bit longer...

While we all value education, many (all?) would agree that caring for your mother is MUCH more important. Just remember, while caring for her, care for yourself. You don't want to become too ill to help her, or too ill to continue with your education when the time is right.

I hope that both of you get well soon.

Thanks so much, LateBloomer...

My mother has been my Number One Cheerleader throughout my educational journey - and my Number One Inspiration. Mom went from Nursing School at age 17, to an eventual full-scholarship Master's Degree in Education from Columbia University...Education will hold - she's definitely my number one priority at this point.

Again, many thanks for your caring note - it's greatly appreciated.

Wow! Your mom cast a big shadow, didn't she? Looking at your signature block, it seems like you're carrying on her tradition of excelling. Take care of your mom, yourself, and then getting back to school will seem like a cakewalk.
